I'm mean if they were looking for a good solid game of country footy would they go to Kersbrook? I'm think probably not. Even with 5 absolute guns as DA said I'd be very very surprised if they got with in 10 of the top two or 3 Central Div teams. Westley is a gun, as much as he was when playing at LOby, probably not, starting to age and those ankles must be causing him serious grief by now!
The gap between the two divs has widened a lot more over the last 3 or 4 years. I'm already feeling sorry for Bridwood...won't be too much fun. Can't see this plan of keeping their quality juniors at the club by moving up to Div 1 working unfortunately.

i'd be very surprised if birdwood were making the step up without having a few aces up their sleeves. and knowing a few guys that play there, i think that is well and truly the case. they'll struggle this season, but not by anywhere near as much as what everyone seems to think they will.

i think u overestimate the gap between the divisions.matt coad is a perfect example... average to good player in country div, took him one year and he's second leading goal kicker in central, for an average side.

that's nearly half a side that could slot into any SANFL club any day of the week. a guy whose won an AFL premiership, one whose finished in the top 5 of the brownlow. and the rest of the team filled out with very respectable players, and this is a statement coming from someone who loves to see kersbrook lose!

your dreaming lay off the sleeping pills
Meadows will be the only team to challenge kangarilla this season
kersbrook are crap and stewie dew is a fat hobo with a good looking girl. he isnt gona play footy for kersbrook

and coad is the most overrated player in the hfl including country division

overrated or not isn't my point.... i'm just saying he's as good in central as he was in country divison.
kangarilla are awesome, and would've made the 5 in central last year

Fair call JC, but a few aces up there sleeves would have to be half a dozen very solid players coming in the side, as in 6 of the best players running around in Div 2 and even then they may still struggle

That's something we can agree on!

I played on him in b's a couple of years back and he was dead set shite. Didn't touch the ball against me, which doesn't say much about his football abilities!

Very big call there JC! I guess i don't really know enough on the Div 2 topic so may have to sit this one out. My personal opinion is that 'you're dreaming', but i could be wrong here....however i highly doubt it. This should bring some interesting conversation!

Kangarilla would have beaten Shanty, IB and Mt Ronnie.

That places them 7th in a 10 team comp.

That shows you how well Birdwood will go

I saw games in both divisions last year and Kangarilla would've beaten Loby, Hahndorf and Blackwood (as well as the bottom teams), this would've put them in the five. They would not have beaten the top three as they were some of the best teams going around in country SA.

The Div 1 posters on here underestimate the standard of Div 2 footy and I too would like to take up DA on those odds of Birdwood not winning a game!!

No doubt Birdwood will struggle in their first year but I'm pretty sure they would've thought about that and are looking towards the future so they don't end up like another Gumeracha.

DA, who did he play B's for? I can't remember him playing B grade. Have you got the right Coad?

I reckon coad is a decent player/ Watched him in a few games last year and he is big and is dangerous. If you let him go and not man up on him, he will tear you to shreds.

On the other hand, put a half decent backlin player onto him, then he doesn't stand out as much. But we all must remember all a centre half forward has to do is provide a contest.

I couldn't name a centre half forward lately that has run a muck up in the hills.
How good is footy!

Loby - back in 2005 at the start of the season. Round 3 or 4.

Yeah it's the right Coad - tall guy (chunky too - like me) number 21.

Was VERY surprised to see him playing A's in the return game in 05 and even more surprised to see him kick so many in '06.

i think you will find jc that div 1 is a much higer standard when we went to div 1 at ironbank after dominating div 2 we keept all our gun players (wells , hayden , campbell , maidment )to name a few and recruited a few more (ladhams, rusty, williamson, sodomka, exelby)and still got no further than an elimination final and that was in the second year !!big gap if you ask me plus more depth in div 1 sides

Maybe this goes to show that you are a very poor judge of opposition footy teams and their players DA cause you are so pumped up about how good team mates are??

Go back and read my post before having an anuerism.

I said that I played on him and didn't rate him. Having played on him possibly gives me a reasonable position to judge from.

I'm sticking with my call. When I played on him, he was crap. When he played against us in the A's at Heathfield in 2005 he was crap.

In 2006 in the A's - When we played Loby at Loby, he was crap. When we played Loby at home, he was crap.

Se a pattern developing here? Every time I've seen him play, he's been crap.

I didn't see him play against shanty or IB or Mt Ronnie, and he might have been good against those teams.

When he played against us (which was the only times I saw him play) he was crap.

I think I was a good judge of opposition last year - I said we'd finish above everyone else and we did. I am pumped up about my team mates, because in both senior grades and senior colts last year we won the flag. This means we were better than the other teams.

Let us know your opinions on who will be good and bad this year then Tanka if you are such an expert.

twe has made a very good cool. they also added monty and brado to that team that made the elimination final. i think kangarilla would have gone close to finals. they probably would have just missed out. couldn't see them beating lofty, uri and onkas. there may be some good players in div but they don't have the depth!

Wonder Boy.....I think you have hit the nail on the head when you say there is more depth in Central Div and that is why the comp is better. There are plenty of good players in the Country comp but they do not have the ex Ressies and League players running with them. Look at what happens to a very average side (Mt Lofty early 00's - 02's beaten by over 50 goals by Loby) when they buy the players to help out their young side. 4 -5 years on and they are a strong club and virtually unbeatable. It is the ability to get these players ( $$$ ) that makes this comp so strong. Most Country teams rely on locals and spend very little cash on high priced "recruits". It will be interesting to see how good the Country comp is this year with Kangies, Meadows, TV, Nairne, Kersbrook all spending $$.
