Certainly out of character. Like many I went in at 6 weeks but is that enough?

I'll refuse to put a number on it, it's just a crazy occurrence, if you had of asked me last week who are the 5 least likely players in the AFL to hit someone, Gaff would've been mentioned.

I'm in no way condoning what he has done but I really think "scragging" off the ball needs to monitored a bit more, they have enough umpires out there to reign it in a little.

100% agree they will present that as his intentions. Personally that doesnt sit comfortable with me though and just becomes and feels like another company line, despite Gaff being the only person who knew what his intentions were. Ultimately no matter what his intentions were in this case it was outside the laws of the game and resulted in a severe injury.

The minute I saw it I thought he was going for the chest. You can see Brayshaw drop down and change his height. Again, no way I am condoning Gaffs action but Gaffs intent was not to get him in the jaw and break his teeth and jaw. IMO of course...

In saying that, they will probably give him 7 so he can't play again this year which is fair TBH

I'm not disagreeing the posibility he was going for the chest, his previously good record suggests that maybe the case. My issue is that the only person who 100% knows that is Gaff and obviously he is going to say that if he can get a reducement of his suspension.

I dont have problem with intention being taken into account if its a football act eg high tackle, spoil gone slightly wrong, slightly mistimed jump into a players back but in this case at no point is a left arm hook with a closed fist to a bloke 25m off the ball part of the game. Therefore either way his intention was well and truly outside of the rules of the game and imo should lose the 'intention' benefit of doubt.

Intent is subjective, the outcome ( concussion, broken jaw etc ) is not.

8 weeks.

Graded as Intentional and Severe.

It will be 8 at a minimum and possibly 10 or more.

I agree with the 8-10 range, but I am thinking he will only get 6-7 though. That will cover him for the last 3 minor rounds and then 3-4 finals. If he is signing with a Vic team next year, the AFL will want him to play round 1. Hope I am wrong though and they give him the 8+

Yep, good chance for AFL to come out and say any of these type of incidents (Hall, Bugg, Gaff) are now 8 minimum.

Come on mate, there's no Liberatore, Ling, Crowley or Cornes running around out there. Go get the ball and get on with it.

It drives me insane watching it, the ball is 50 metres away and the player is just continually banging their opponent in the chest with an open handed palm to the chest, not necessary IMO.

When the ball is in the vicinity by all means get in the way, use your body or hips to get them off guard/balance or out of the hot spot.

Just on the Red Card thing - By the Way this will happen at AFL level.

Using the Gaff/Brayshaw incident as an example. Who issues the red card? As the incident was well off the ball, and supposedly not seen by any of the umpires on the ground... how does this play out?

Do we wait for the Fox Footy team to replay the incident 15 times from 73 angles, pass that onto Gil, who send a text to Michael Christian. He then phones the umpires boss, who taps the emergency umpire on the shoulder & runs onto the ground and waves a red card in Gaff's face.

Yep, that'll work.

Gaff has flown to Melbourne to be at the tribunal tonight.

When he landed the AFP loaded him into a car and took him from the tarmac to his accommodation.

Did they think there was going to be a lynch mob waiting for him?

Who suggests that?

Who pays for that?

You must be kidding. Callum Mills was knocked out and took no further part in the game, but played the next week. Brayshaw on the other hand.... Has to be well north of 6
