Yeah, NM should hold Port over a barrel for this one.
If they do and negotiations fall down they've got to manage someone who doesn't want to be there and is disgruntled at his trade request not being met. If they think he was hard work this year, good luck with that next year and this all the while not knowing who their coach will be and not having any recruiters to do the list management. Probably some bigger issues to worry about.

Having said that if I was North I'd want 2 x 1st + something but know deep down 2 x 1st get it done so we can move on.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I would not give up Butters, no. In his 66 games he's shown he's got the ability/potential to be an elite player, if he doesn't reach elite status he'll be a very good player. JFH, at this point, is on potential alone.

I'd give up pick 8 this year and next years 1st rounder, hopefully we return to finals which means that could be in the 10-18 bracket. If North think we're a shot at finals and see 8/2022 and 13*/2023, would that get it done?

Frankly, it should. They have a bloke who doesn't want to be there, he's been as badly managed as the club has and it's hardly an elite environment you're selling him at the moment. I'd take 2 x 1st rounders and move on.
Given North, less than 12 months go, had an offer of three first rounders based on potential for JHF that gives an idea of his worth

Being serious 2 x 1st rounders aint getting this done. You need to offer more than that. Who it is will be be up to the clubs to sort out.

However if Butters has an offer (and as you say you have to pay overs to get someone in) he may say I'd like to request a trade for 50% more cash
over 2-3 years.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Players wanting to leave, and it not getting done, is not new.

NM would surely be wanting 2 x 1st round and a player or he stays.

I think they'll give up the "something else" to move on. Can't see them wanting him there next year.

No point saying "He's happy where he is" or "Lol, he's going nowhere" as when they do up and leave you just look silly.
Things change.

Imagine not having an opinion on something hey?

He would be just as pissed at Port for not making it happen.

Pick #9 and a future wont get it done, if we could get Butters then Id take him and soften then pick request to maybe even just next years 1st rounder.

Butters extended his contract this year to end of 2024, Im sure Port would have had something longer in front of him, makes you think he might want to go home at some stage

End of 2023 Boak, Lycett, Dixon, Jonas and Fantasia are out of contract and would, if extended, be on much less.

It's no coincidence Marshall, Butters and Rozee come out at the end of 2024. All three in for big pay days on their next deals.

Butters doesn't need to wait until 2025 for his big pay day if he moves :)

The Clarkson thing couldn't have come at a worst time for you guys, I think that might be a little off-putting right about now.

West Coast apparently want Ports compo pick 27 (Amon) for Rioli.

Personally I see Amon as being worth a fair bit more than Rioli.

He is, but we've got more Amon-like than we do Rioli-like, it's list balance.

On JHF going at pick 1 last year, makes you wonder if North would have taken him there if there was no Father/Son selections.

Would they have taken Darcy or Daicos if there was no bidding war for them? We'll never know I guess.

I just can't like this comment, at least Amon's are versatile and you can experiment, Rioli will sit in a pocket all year and not kick 30.

You can roll him in as much glitter as you want, it's a big fat NO from me, a 28 year old 50 gamer averaging 1.2 goals per game is a wasted trade and we'll pay overs.

We'd get a better return from the pocket with a resting onballer or ruckman, this has Lindsay Thomas written all over it, give one of the kids more game time.

With a previous drug issue and even when given the time off never came back any fitter than he was previously.
