Growling Frog confirmed 1.06pm tee time on Friday. Carts booked, pick up a box of beer at Dan's on the way out there. Huge arvo planned!

I like the course overall, was in OK nick given the rain- lots of worm holes pushing mud to the surface! A few dry days in a row (unlikely for the short term) would have it in great nick I reckon.

1 thing helped forget about the short game...

Vines
Beautiful brisk, fresh winters morning.

1st - slice onto 9th....then hybrid sliced further right....lol almost salvaged a point.
Putting was its usual Norman style yips shit.

Changed set up on Driver, opened club face, opened stance and started hitting some nice shots.
Somehow lost a ball on 13th...ball went into trees, think Skippy who was relaxing under there stole it ffs.

Ended up with 28pts and i think 9pts came last 4 holes....including a 1 pt on 17th...lol

Tough track, big greens with subtle breaks. Bunkers everywhere, unfortunately many were small swimming pools and were marked as GUR. Started off ok, but the more beers that went down, the worse the golf played.

Played match play for a small interest. Was 2 up through 5, then 3 up through 10. Lost 11, 12 & 13 to be back to square. Birdie the highlight on 14 and I’m back to 1 up. I can only describe the last 4 holes as an abortion... horrid! Choked and lost on the 18th.

There was hardly any wind at all on course yesterday, when it blows this place would be damn tough.

Clubs back in the shed... they will be staying there for quite some time too..

I've never played Vines, Willunga or Thaxted but plan to next week.

Which one should I and what do they compare to?

You’ve named them in the order you should play them.
@mighty_tiger_79 can give you a good run down on The Vines. IMO it’s twice the course it was 15 years ago. In excellent nick.
Willunga for a public course is a good track. Thaxted - meh...

How does The Vines compare to a Flaggy or Mt Osmond?

Vines is comparable to Mt Osmond, but the views at Mt Osmond are top shelf.
Vines is better than flaggy. Although i suspect it keeps improving.
Willunga is a good little track.
Thaxted, well they ****** that up a couple if years ago...

I haven’t played Flaggy in over 12 months but it was in poor condition at the time.

Over the years I think I only ever played Thaxted once, and I never went back. Vines, yep played that a few times, and didn't mind it. Willunga, played that a few times, mainly in Southern Group Pennants, its ok, wouldn't rave about it though. Mt Osmond, only played that a few times, including the well know Booney golf days, well presented on the occasions I ventured up that hill. Flaggy, again played it once, that was enough for me....

The 18th hole is simply ridiculous

Flaggy has the most interesting layout, thats why I prefer it. Front nine is 3 Par3's, 3 Par 4's 3 Par 5's. It has had its trouble of late with its fairways, but once they get that right its the best all round course down South.

Vines has always been in excellent nick the last few years, but I find a few of the holes on the back 9 a bit boring (up and down the hill, then repeat)

Willunga much shorter than the above but a good track and always enjoyed it, except in middle of winter after a heap of rain as it can get sloshy.

Thaxted has so much potential, but like others for some reason I just can't warm to it.

If I have time on my side I prefer Lady Bay/McCracken over any above as I love links courses.

I see golf deals have a special on at the moment at Lady Bay. $85.00 a round for two people including a motorised buggy. what's a normal round worth?
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Yeah I have my eye on that one, been watching their social media lately and looks like its in great nick. Will get there soon. Was a bit scarred by it a few years back when it was in terrible condition.
