if only one of the club's teams then makes it through to the gf can a player who played in a higher grade in the sf go down a grade without a permit?

yes! If they are qualified for the lower grade

so playing a final in the lower grade automatically qualifies you for the rest of the season? i guess the answer is yes, but just interested.

thanks you, just seems odd that a player picked in a higher grade for the semi final then drops to a lower grade for the grand final........when the team he played for in the semi final doesn't make it

All this and more can be found in the by law book that is printed at the start of each season.

For those interested in the Mosey Medal votes they are now visible on the BLCA website

The system is fine.
You only have to look at Angaston who had a kid play a2's most of the year but played in the a1's semi final, once the a1's were eliminated it would be extremely unfair on the kid to be not able to go back and play with his a2's side in the GF, he did afterall spend most of the season there.
Everyone knows the rules at start of season

As a side note do any clubs actually enforce these rules?
I know of a couple of clubs who dont adhere 100% to the rules but I wouldnt think too many captains would know the rules correctly

Yeah that would probably be the case .... that got put together 4 or 5 years ago realtively quickly, but the improvements to mycricket probably made it redundant to some degree, and probably more importantly, there's probably not a lot it can be used for that the mycricket interface doesn't give you.
