He can't because he's already played for the Boomers in a NZ series when he was in high school.

Three year clause isn’t there?

Re: 2018/19 NBL Season + Off-season News
I've never heard of a three year clause? I've always understood it that once you play senior basketball for a country you can't ever switch to another country unless you go through a long and arduous appeals process with FIBA that can take years.
I dare say that was the reason BA played him back in 2013 because he wasn't good enough then to justify a spot on the team they were locking him in for the future.

I thought if a player was a duel citizen that if they played for one country and then decided to play for the other country that if there was a three year gap it was possible

In a big coup for the team Melbourne United have announced they've lured back three-time NBL championship winning import Casey Prather on a 2 year deal. After winning the title with United in 2018 Prather signed to play in Russia last season but was released before playing a game due to injury and spent the whole season on the sidelines.

Re: 2018/19 NBL Season + Off-season News
I feel a bit for the people who bought tickets to those two big games against Team USA thinking they were going to see a star studded USA team which with all the withdrawals now looks like it's worst team with NBA players since 1992 and thinking they would see Ben Simmons playing for us.
When Simmons decided to skip the World Cup but made himself available to play in the four warm up games here against the USA & Canada I was actually hoping either BA would tell him no or he would reconsider and skip the lot. It would've hurt our preparations and structures too much to have him play in those games and then needing to rejig on the fly at the WC.
It's a shame for the ticket buyers because he's supposedly back in Melbourne now but better for our chances at the WC he doesn't play.
