Hi we are about to get NBN on either 25/5 Mbps or 50/20 Mbps plan,can any body recommend what sort of router would be ok. Thank you.

I'm watching it. I'm told my Billion 7401VGP R3 may be sufficient at the lower speeds I plan to use - like, perhaps, the 25/5Mbps.

We have the Netcomm NP803n for our NBN.

The internets awesome on the desktop and PS3 which are both connected directly to the router via Ethernet cable. The laptops good when just using the internet, but when downloading torrents its very very slow when wireless. Im not very computer savvy, so its probably something else causing the slowness on the laptop.

We have the 50mbps NBN package from Adam. They send the router out to you for a charge.

Coalition will definitely screw up the nbn project when they get in. Pray your house gets connected before it happens. I can see the cable for my street, but I think I will miss out and be stuck with copper.

The latest news about the time lag blowing out anyway suggests it won't need the Coalition to screw it up.
I'm about to try to check on my chances again, as my area is supposed to be connected during this year.

Coalition will scrap the connection from the node to your house. I guess when you only do a third of the job, it will be quicker and cheaper. If you want the nbn, then under the coalition you will need to pay for the connection to your house. Price I have heard is over a grand.

I've never needed the NBN for my purposes, but I'll take it for the extra speed if it is there, and the connection is free, so long as I can get a plan and VOIP service that won't cost much more than my existing deal for ADSL2+ with Internode. If those conditions are not met I can live without the extra speed.
It's no big deal to me...

FTTN would, I assume, stop at the local exchanges, and my home service would then run on the copper it already runs on.
The cost of renegotiating the deal with Telstra may make it less viable to pull the plug on FTTH though now the previous deal has been done, at least in some areas.
(Especially since the copper will need replacing in time anyway.)

I certainly wouldn't pay to run an NBN connection from the node, nor even from the street frontage which is 50 metres from my house.
So far the NBN Co are still promising me a free connection to the house.
If that is still on the table at the time, regardless of who is in government by then, I'll look at taking it...

I dont know about existing houses, but we moved into a newly built house that already had the box connected to the house, but there was still some stuff to hook up inside. They needed to put 3 boxes on the wall in the walk in wardrobe. That was all free. All we paid for was our plan with Adam and the router.

All new homes have the hardware pre installed, including conduit from home to street. Easy connection.

I live in a cave called Athelstone which will probably not have NBN fibre installed until the end of the project in 10 or so years, or possibly never depending on what the coalition do in government.

I'll then have to live with my shitty 6.5Mb down / 256Kb up service until then (or forever).

I think I'll shoot myself ...

Not sure if this is true, but was told today if someone from NBN asks are you interested in connecting say YES. If you say no, your name gets crossed off, and you will have to pay connection fees if you change your mind. Can't confirm as of yet.

They told me that so long as my 1988 built house has a standard Telstra size pipe (P23??) that they can thread the cable up the connection is free regardless of my distance from the road.

Yes TSG - my information, too, is that if you don't say "Yes" when the connection is offered that is it for free connection.
That's the main reason I'm going to do so, even if I go with the cheapest and slowest plan initially.
