Hughes' mother and sister were present in the crowd when Hughes was injured.

He's been taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson said the health and safety of Hughes was paramount and there would be no update on his condition at this stage.

NSW team doctor John Orchard has accompanied Hughes to hospital and will provide an update when appropriate.

Slightly positive that he improved a small amount before being taken to hospital.

Feel very ill at present and don't really feel like training tonight...

Yep Heater, I couldnt be any less motivated for training tonight.

Could this see a rule change, in regards to bumpers? didnt one of the NSW blokes get stretchered off last match after being hit?

Whilst a horrible thing you cant ban the bouncer, was just an unfortunate incident

Some shocking injuries this year in county cricket but that could have more to do with helmet design...

Far out!

Fingers crossed he recovers well.

Agreed with Jim, an unfortunate incident cant result in the banning of a delivery.

Agreed, unfortunate incident and you cant ban the bouncer all together but was more thinking in regards to sustained short pitch bowling?

Doctor John Orchard - Cricket Australia's chief medical officer - treated Hughes on the scene and travelled with Hughes to Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital where he arrived in critical condition.

However Cricket NSW could not confirm if Hughes was alive when he left the ground.

Footage is inconclusive, very broken internet feed.

I have read unconfirmed "cardiac arrest" reports.

to me that pic either says in the chest and the ball has bounced up after contact or about to pin him in the side of the neck.... probably the two most vulnerable spots

Yep no one wishes this on any player

With all the protection gear we wear these days while you know you may get the odd injury potentially a break or something you don't expect your life to be put at risk

Thoughts go out to Hughes and his family as well all the other cricketers involved in this match
