They're not playing that well and unless you finish Top 2 under the new format, the flag is tough to win.
They're gonna have to do everything right from here in to finish 2nd. If they dont, they'll have to win 3 finals in a row, possibly all away from home.
Nairne are basically certainties to play in the GF from here which leaves 1 spot for Strath, Creeks, Woodside and possibly Lobey to fight for.

Some TVCA thoughts:

Paracombe 115- Some handy inclusions joining the regular names sees the Pirates perhaps surprising ladder leaders
Gumeracha 114- Plenty of batting but perhaps lacking the bowling depth of previous years. May regain Sumner for finals
Cambrai 107- Have lost 3 straight after fast start. Lack the batting of the top 2 sides, but plenty of bowlers.
Palmer 104- Inconsistent start to the year but now have hit straps. Should be stronger after xmas with a settled side
Mt Torrens 78- Not much was expected but have won 3 straight, including wins against the top 2 sides.
Lenswood 70- Disappointing year to this point, far too inconsistent
Birdwood 31- Over 24 months have passed since their last win. Thought they’d be doing better with some new faces.

The one day format appears to have been well received by the majority. Not sure everybody agrees with the 8 over max for bowlers though. Personally I miss the previous mix of 1 and 2 day games but feel as though the new format has made the A grade more interesting/competitive.

In the B Grade Birdwood are sitting top after some lean years, with all teams apart from the winless Palmer in the finals mix. Much more even comp this year.

A while back I was bored so had a look at how many senior sides clubs were fielding in 08/09 (the year when all associations started using mycricket) and compared it to the current year. Flagstaff Hill etc weren’t considered. Basically it emphasised what people already know. Obviously it will vary from year to year but the trend is clear. Hopefully a similar analysis in 2024/25 won’t reveal the same decline.

16 clubs have seen a drop in senior sides:

From 4 to 3- Happy Valley, Aldgate, Mt Lofty
From 3 to 2- Meadows, Uraidla, Stirling, Onkas, SCIB, Mylor, Wistow
From 2 to 1- Hahndorf, Eden Valley, Mt Torrens/Charleston
From 2 to 0- Kersbrook, Milang
From 1 to 0- Mt Pleasant/Springton

4 clubs have seen a rise in senior sides:

From 1 to 2- Birdwood, Finniss
From 2 to 3- Ashbourne, Langhorne Creek

16 clubs are unchanged:

Unchanged with 4- Woodside, Nairne
Unchanged with 3- Lobethal, Strathalbyn
Unchanged with 2- Palmer, Gumeracha, Lenswood, Paracombe, Cambrai, Bridgewater, Eastern Ranges, Basket Range, Bremer/Cally, Mt Barker, Echunga, Macclesfield

So 88 teams has decreased to 74, a loss of 1.65% compounded over 9 seasons. Yes its a trend we would prefer is going the other way, but 1.65% isn't as bad as many would have thought it was.

True when you break it down into % terms over the period it's far from a disaster. Would be interesting to see how other regional comps have fared over a similar period.

Really interesting analysis, thanks for taking the time to put it together saintal :-BD

Any idea what the trends are with junior cricket teams? Don't meant to create work for you, haha...

Just wondering if the growing population in some of those hills towns has meant junior numbers are increasing. In time hopefully that will help the senior cricket numbers.

Interesting, I reckon Lofty only had 4 teams for a year or two back then, been 3 on average for a while now.

Clubs in A&EHCA are averaging 2.5 senior teams this season which is on par with the last couple of seasons. Peaked at 2.8 in 11/12 when Woodside and Lobethal came across but has never been higher than that. Long term average is 2.3 (ie from 83/84 when the ACA & MtBEHCA merged to become one) and in the last 10 years it's been 2.5 so no growth, but no decline.

Jason Erskine made 87 and Hugh Parkinson made 72. They put on 151 for the second wicket.

Day of Upsets with Lobethal getting up over Nairne.

Wistow couldn't make it the trifecta of upsets tho, getting smashed by Hurricane Warrens' 171 at the Creek in a total of 6/317 to Wistows 147.

Nairne are pretty much assured of top spot still but 2nd to 5th is a lottery. Very hard to pick who will miss out.

Noticed that other bloke... perhaps known as outside word who was so disillusioned at the decision to play all one day cricket that he retired from the game... had a run after-all. Storm-Teacup!

Langhorne Creek into the CLH T20 Grand Final at Adelaide Oval for the 2nd successive year to defend their title after disposing of Central Broken Hill and then Meadows at Loxton on Sunday. Fantastic effort to have now recorded 21 T20 wins on the trot dating back to 2014

Hills will play Great Southern in the Meyer Shield Carnival final on Thursday.

Hills knocked off AEH on Saturday and Murray Towns Sunday

AEH lost narrowly to Great Southern on Sunday.

TVCA were thumped by Great Southern on Saturday before beating KI on Sunday.

An enjoyable/tiring weekend :drinkers:
