Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
Half Moon Bay
Played here on a recommendation from a mate, initially was thinking Cairns and did try to book in there just in case I couldn't get in here.
Friendly people, but I guess when the weather is as it is most of the time, no reason to be grumpy
Had a "premium" hire set. Few taylormade sim clubs from 3w, hybrid, 4-sw. Putter got no idea and an old cleveland driver.
The initial email had me walking which was no drama, but got paired with a lively Brisbane lad of 80yo, who was escaping the Brisbane cold for 6-7 weeks
and a member Wazza.
The warning was accuracy is a must.
A few times that hurt me.
There were quite a few doglegs and some blind driving shots.
Did follow the other two's advice on a few holes.
Only lost 2 balls. One on a blind tee shot i hit the ball a little too well and think it ran down the hill into the mangroves.
Other on 17, a bloody tree in middle of fairway. Aimed a little to the left, absolutely creamed it but had a fade. Smashed the tree and Wazza says that's going in the water, 2 bounces and in....
SW goes a mile.
7i was solid.
Driver ok.
3w solid.
Putting was ok. Blundered a few holes.
Ended with 30pts. Happy with that.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
Yesterday
Just garbage. Felt like I'd never played. 22pts
Today
2 birdies in first 4 holes.
24pts after 9
Finished with 41
God only knows where that came from

Lost on countback.Dutchy wrote:Win the comp?
I was monitoring the leaderboard when the competitor had 4 holes left and needed 12pts to tie which was good enough for countback.
38pts today and won on countback

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
driver now has a fadey slice
gonna take some getting used to that
the dam is about 80%, so the next week of rain will be great for the course and heading into spring/summer the course will be in superb condition

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
After yesterday's debacle I did set up for the vanilla slice. Was ok. But feels so awkward setting up and aiming left.
Short game was really good. Few decent putts. Horrible conditions.
39pts

Day off on Friday so playing the comp at the Vines, then off for the Brown Jacket event at Compass on Sunday, it will be cooooold but looks like rain will stay away. Haven't play Compass since 2020 so looking forward to it.

Mount compass still running a deal.
2nd player pays half price.
On website a round is $89.
For anyone keen.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
Played Compass with a mate who was keen as he hadn't been there in years.
Was hoping to break 90
And lose max 3 balls.
Lost 1 ball on 18th
Had 89
Happy enough with that.
Greens were grease lightning

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
Barossa this morning
Bom said 6 but feels like -0.8.
This time the feels like temp felt wrong.
First time in a while since playing here.
Greeted with icy tee box, fairways and greens.
Driver behaved itself for the most part. Cost me on 18 by slicing into a hazard that, for the first time in years had water in it.... that led to the only wipe for the day with a 7 on the par 4.
Greens were good in the areas where they were good. But they were very patchy.
Do enjoy the layout at barossa the most of the 3 courses up there.
Despite the last hole choke. 36pts

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go
Rocked up last Friday to the Vines to see them rolling the greens
bump into a greenskeeper and says they have been double rolled...fantastic! They ended up being the quickest Ive ever played them, even putted off the green twice. Driver is working well, rest of the game crap, 25 points but a highly enjoyable arvo away from work. Gave the refurbed sprig bar a test afterwards.
Sunday we rocked up to compass, it was warmer than expected but the wind was up, probably a 3 club breeze. Which made is a real test, nearly drove the 6th and got just short of the 7th green in 2, then the 8th was a nailed driver and 3 wood for a birdie putt (3
).
Got some momentum on the back 9 but putting let me down big time, lipped out for an eagle on 15 and missed the 2 foot birdie putt.
Driver again really good 8/14 fairways hit, 3 wood was brilliant, its been a great purchase. 31 points which I was reasonably happy with.
