Apart from Josh Smith with his height the other guys Josh Fahey,Callum McCarty & Jack Saunders are similar in size and we have a lot of players like that .Josh Ralph is the point of difference being a small forward .I think we will be ok but just a bit more height would be handy .

Because Centrals CEO championed the idea.

They let it happen because they are gutless cowards who wont stand up to the AFL teams.
It is suppose to be their role to look after the proper teams not pander to the AFL
As from next season the will become the SAVFL

100% this. So pathetic, just when I thought I couldn't hate Port anymore, they produce another reason. These AFL reserves teams continue to destroy our competition. They're all take with no benefit.

Average so far,we haven't come close with replacing what we've lost.
Might be a struggle to make the top 5.

I dont get the mass outrage over Cochrane playing for the power in the SANFL. With under 18's and afl academy stuff he would've only played around a dozen or so games. Don't get the hysteria over not having Cochrane for 12-14 games. Any "advantage" port or crows seem to get hasn't helped. They still havent won a sanfl flag

Still a dozen games or so with the club that developed him.
I know Port want to get him into their system early but they will cop some beltings this year and close to zero chance of finals so he might have developed just as good at a competitive team

He'll be playing SANFL not AFL, they have loaded up on very good State League players on their AFL list. They'll be around the mark this year.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yeah, I don’t agree. Couple of injuries to their AFL team and the Maggies will be bottom 2-3.
Think even at full strength they aren’t anywhere near a threat in the SANFL this year

Centrals havent won a flag since the AFl clubs have been introduced to the SANFL. Maybe if the SANFL didnt approve us losing players to prop up AFL clubs in our league......

As for the advantages port/crows gain by joinning the SANFl are to be measured by their success in the AFl not the SANFl. They have won nothing but a wooden spoon collectively since bullying their way into the league.

Plus Dougie didnt qualify under the current rules because he had played league footy for CDFC.

Thus why he needed an exemption. The number of games he could play is irrelevant.

Its a debacle.

Yet another reason why despite remaining loyal to my SANFL club and not following the bright lights of the AFL clubs when they were initially formed, this year will see my financial support to the club drop. Was only reading the annual report yesterday and being reminded that success is measured by premierships. Maybe we should amend it to measuring how much we can support AFL Clubs in being successful.
Good luck to Dougie, he has to do what he feels is best for him. The SANFL comp becomes more irrelevant with every year that passes.

The same thing happened to the Eagles with Welsh, not sure the year of league footy helped him and his development.

It is a slap in the face of the Dogs who have developed the kid and they get one last chance to see him play for them at league level and it is taken away.

It's not hysteria, it's the constant folding to the AFL reserves to the detriment of genuine SANFL teams. Why wouldn't we want him for 12 or so games? It could be the difference between finals or not (although with the players we've lost, I doubt it). Why should we strengthen (again) a team we're playing against for a premiership? As for they "still haven't won a grand final", that's not the point. We haven't won a grand final either, and Port have played in three as an AFL reserves side. Additionally, I don't believe either AFL reserves team can claim they develop players better than the SANFL teams. Why can't he train with them and play with us, just like it used to be when AFL players were assigned to the real SANFL teams pre AFL reserves teams (a system that garnered three AFL premierships).
As for, if as inferred the CEO was "pro" this transfer, he should decide who he works for. If untrue he should probably let the paying members know.

The other thing about letting Cochrane go to Port early is the Dogs missing out on a year with him to build better connections to the club so that when his AFL journey ends he is more likely to come back to the Dogs.
My gut feel is a lad that has played a year or two of League footy before the draft is much more likely to return to that club than someone taken straight from the 18s. I dont have any stats to back this up

My final word on the Cochrane issue.. I can’t blame our club for allowing this to happen. Resisting the request would have been a lose/lose situation. The genie was uncorked years ago allowing the AFL Reserves teams in. The SANFL’s status as a genuine state league comp is diminished and compromised further with every year and it’s only going to get worse. I’m too old to adapt or accept that and (maybe not so much on this site) in the vast minority when it comes to the SA footy follower so will admit the battle is over .. and we lost.
