Re: Gaelic Football 2009/10 Season
Na fianna have got club legend Gavin Orielly back which will help there run. But the favourite even with out pete tyson would have to be onkas with gabe and rolfe tearing it up.
western irelan are on the look out for a no goal keeper and have heard a few lads are not going on but should still have a strong squad.
st brendans will be strong as always and if they have the same side as last year will finish up close to the top. and when it comes to finals anything can happen

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Re: Gaelic Football 2009/10 Season
Don't count us (Flinders) out again this season. Picked up a handful of players to compliment the pre christmas side of last year. Daniel Della Verde, a quality goalkeeper from the south australian super league and a number of super league soccer players (including the tallest player in the league). If all the players gel we will be in with a big shot....

true before xmas last year they were the suprise packet of the league. Had a very good game plan and are hard to play against. guessing freddy Aguis will not be playing this year as he is in the A league. He is one of the best players i have seen out at st mary's. looks to be a good year for the comp and looks like most sides have improved

You're right, he is a gun! Don't think we could afford to fly him in from north queensland tho
Does anyone know when the draw comes out and how many teams are in the mens league this year?

Bring on the 2009/2010 season!
The state league draw should be out sometime this week (as it should be, the season is due to start on Friday 16 October 2009) and will be posted to the http://www.gaelicfootballsa.com.au website.
As for the teams in the mens state league this year, the usual crew of Western Ireland, Onkas, Flinders O'Neills, St Brendans, Irish Australians, and Na Fianna are all fronting up again, and they will be joined this year by the Mitcham Hawks - a new team which i believe is based around the Mitcham Football Club in the SAAFL. I also heard some talk that Irish Australians MIGHT be lodging 2 mens teams this year, not sure tho!

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
well done to all 3 teams at the australasian championships.
the girls lost the national final by 6 points to w.a
the boys lost in overtime by a couple of points to champions vic who smashed w.a in the final
the men started slowly but played awesome football to do enough to make the semis.unfortunately w.a chose to tank the final round game which allowed them to avoid playing s.a in the semis and let them play wellington for an easier passage to a final (which they didnt win, sucked in assholes)
overall the championships were a success for s.a with a couple of re-occuring themes
- w.a suck and will manipulate the system for their own benefit
- s.a is the only state made up of local footballers from their own comp and not irish imports and visa players
- damien "moose' emery may be the funniest man alive without even trying
hope to see you all at st.marys over summer

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Everyone loves a punt,so heres the pre X-Mas league "Jim Farnham Cup" odds...
ONKAS 18/10 fav.-rumours suggest they have recruited well and the state snr debuts of whitto(s.a,s b+f at nationals),janetski(leading goalskis for s.a),stevo and the return of wade "sexy" saunders will make them hard to stop....gabe who?
WEST IRELAND 25/10 - It would be no SHOC to see these boys take the next step after 08/09 in what must be described as a massive underachievement for such a suceesfull club.Gags and Klunny were outstanding at the nationals.
ST. BRENDANS 3/1 - A bit of value for last years Hannigan cup champions.the loss of Millsy for the season could hurt but are certain to recruit the best of the state minors through the mini Pegararro connection.
FLINDERS 5/1 - On paper their names suggest they could be another pre xmas special.Pfieffer,Palmer,Haughey,Neesons,Agius,Mcsorely,Elbows Elbrough and recruits is a very impressive list....Consistency is the only concern.Keen for silverware no doubt as the last 20 years has produced nil.
NA FIANNA 8/1 - Damien "Moose" Emery has produced a couple of recruiting cherrys. Will the new blood blend with the experience of Fay,Hennessy,Lawlor,Hill and co.
MITCHAM 10/1 - Chris Carey and his Mitcham Hawks are unlikely to win the pre-season comp but will gain valuable experience for Hannigan Cup time. They are the unknowns of the comp and 10/1 may interest some of their players.
IRISH AUSTRALIANS - 25/1 - The loss of some key personell to Mitcham will hurt I.A who it would be fair to stay have struggled at times over the last few years. Still have some of the most talented SAAFL players playing in their team in Platten,Westergreen and Stevey "Ray" Clay.

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
Since creating the book i have had the following info come to light ;
-Andrew "Soxy" Westergreen has transferred to Mitcham from Irish Australians and Tommy Greenshields may be following suit.
-Irish Australians have 5-6 new Irish players and should field their most competitive team in years.
-Both Flinders and Na Fianna have 2 new Irishmen training with them at the moment.
-Western Irelands Dave Floreani is NOT Jon Floreanis dad.Its his brother.
-There is a trial game tomorrow between Mitcham v Irish Australians.Should be very interesting.
-Nick Jolly (S.A,s best first year player+S.A,s all star team FF) has signed with Na Fianna.
-Andrew "Millsy" Milsom has been employed as full time coach at St.Brendans.
-2009/10 will see the return of several players from their Gaelic hiatus.

I can't wait for the Gaelic comp to start this week.
Hopefully St Brendans can continue last seasons late form into this weeks first round game against Irish Australians.

The Farnan & Hannigan cups wont be the only silverware the Taints are chasing in 09/10. Word is that the new uniforms have just arrived, so the taints must be some chance for that best dressed team award..!! Unfortunately this means the old Frostbites guernseys will be put away but perhaps can be used in a throwback match possibly against the old foes Na Fianna.

going to miss the old frostbites tops. western ireland may go back to the old cappo brothers or lockleys hotel ones. Going to be very interesting first up game for the Goats vs onkas. not much love lost between the 2 sides. Rumour has it club legend chopper could be suiting up friday night.

The Z train has been spotted in the pubs around henley beach and is on holidays from the dockers coaching box. have not heard if he would don the purple and green this year, but will be very welcome.
the goats will also introduce a new goal keeper this year. have heard is a massive unit 6ft 5. maybe hard to score against. the new spider of the comp maybe????

Re: Gaelic Football in South Australia
You have some good mail there Swooper - the Taints will indeed be bringing sexy back to Gaelic Footy, and unleashing a new kit on an unsuspecting St Marys Park this Sunday arvo! And as for Frostbites - it will live on, as long as we always remember it
All the signs are pointing to a hardly fought out men's competition for 2009/2010! Huge game on the Friday night between last years 3rd and 4th placed teams Onkas and Western Ireland, should be a cracker... will also be interesting to see how the newbies Mitcham fare against last years grand finalists Na Fianna. Also any truth that Na Fianna have picked up former Saint Brendan's junior Nick "Saint Nick" Jolly?
