Happy to be wrong, but was there a time when the bloke standing the mark was protected and couldn't be blocked / interfered with?
I reckon it was Collingwood in particular being penalised for it a couple of years back?
Hawthorn do it well, and often, and if it's legal you gotta wonder why every side doesn't do it

umm they only block once the umpire has called play on, rest of the teams have some really comical attempts at trying to do it, some dumb footballers out there

Correct on all counts.
But often the 'blocker' is standing next to the fella on the mark, waiting for the play-on call. That's what I thought the umpires were clamping down on a while back.
Again, if it's inside the rules of play, why don't more do it? It works really well for those that have used it.

I think mostly the guy with the ball times when he will play on with when a team mate gets to the player on the mark to block him

Piss poor by Jamison from Carlton tonight. Robinson went up to shake his hand and he turned and walked off. Robinson interviewed straight after the match was reasonably upset about it.
