Re: State Team
A few anti-state game posts on various forums have unfortunately got under my skin.
I think I've made my views on the idiocy of the SANFL over fixture programming and byes quite clear.
However, to me, the state game will always remain sacrosanct.
Don't anyone dare knock state or state of origin football. The game is called Australian Rules Football.
A.F.L. is simply the bastardised name given to an organisation with no right to exist in its current form.
Too many younger fans didn't grow up watching this nation's best at glorious interstate war.
It was sublime sporting magic at the pinnacle of human endeavor and should always be venerated.
It's only the stupidity, greed and megalomania of the pretend AFL that has denigrated the worth of
Australian Rules Football in every state of our great land. Don't blame state football, blame Victorians,
the pathetic expanded VFL and all those who support any un-AFL team for the current destruction.
May all those who have caused this decrepit outrage burn in hell for your cowardice and betrayal !!!!!!!
Lest we forget.
Luv,
Sabre.

Re: State Team
How many South Australians will feature in this "State" game?
How many of them will revere the opportunity to wear the red, blue and yellow V of SA?
It's an inter-league match, that is all.

Re: State Team
Just as a quick diversion on the topic of state footy, I'm interested in people's thoughts on how South Australia would perform under a revived 'AFL' state of origin concept against Victoria and WA?

Re: State Team
I reckon SA would struggle, personally.
I also reckon that NSW would be vastly improved - due to the 'Academies' of both GWS & Sydney.
The old Division 1 in a Carnival would be very interesting IMHO.
Victoria would win I reckon - then any of NSW, WA & SA 2nd, most likely WA perhaps.

It always was an inter-league match though.
I've always seen the state games of the last few years as a bit like the All-Star game in Major League Baseball, etc. People don't all have to be interested, but I enjoy seeing the best in the league take on the best of other state leagues, especially since the Vics have become our bunnies.

To be fair those that would have been in contention to be selected are no longer at the club or injured

No its not. If the best players were selected from each league the VFL would win by 15 goals.
Its not even a representative game, its a meaningless handicapped event designed as a junket for a small group of people.
Correct weight, it's a farce.
When did they introduce this format? I think I remember in previous years they allowed AFL listed players, provided they had played enough league matches to qualify.
Is it completely non-AFL listed blokes now?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Re: State Team
Surprised Luke Barmby couldn't get a spot in the final 25 players...
Mitch Clisby aside, I'm concerned about what I see as a lack of run and carry from half back...
Will be interesting to see the final 22 selected...

Petrenko made himself unavailable, said he wanted to concentrate on Eagles.
Reckon that is disappointing decision, if every player did that we would not have a team!

Thought Chris Schmidt would have at least been worthy of 25 man squad selection?

Agree on Barmby.
Don't quite understand the Hitchcock selection. Yes, has been "handy" enough in 8 games for South this year, but given he played hills footy last year you cant really say he was picked on the back of a solid 12 months of sanfl footy. Would have though there were better candidates.

Hard to understand why someone would turn down an opportunity to play for the State team. I remember James Allen did the same thing several years ago.

Could be dealing with an injury that only the Club and Jared know about?

Re: State Team
I find it harder to believe that anyone would want to play in this game. The only possible reason would be to avoid yet another freaking bye.
