If Southerns are falling apart as rumoured then wouldn't SACA be silently happy with this outcome?tigerpie wrote:They can come and play for reynella anytime.

Re: Grade Cricket
Who knows how Southerns are going to go. Obviously the merger/takeover isn't happening. It would be interesting to see how they go next season.Dutchy wrote:If Southerns are falling apart as rumoured then wouldn't SACA be silently happy with this outcome?tigerpie wrote:They can come and play for reynella anytime.

From an observation, apart from their flag a few years back, their on field performances have been poor across all grades for a number of years, they lose their talented players to other clubs (as TC has said it looks like Barrett may be on the way out?) and they don't seem to be able to attract players to their club.
They would have to throw the absolute kitchen sink at players and spend a heap of money if they want to attract them. It's a shame though as they should be in the comp due to the location and they have a great coach down there at the moment. Hard to see how they are going to improve across the board though.

Re: Grade Cricket
If Adelaide do apply for a women's licence hopefully SACA make them go through the process of applying as per all the other clubs.
Think it took the Seahorses about 4 seasons to get a side in women's 1st grade and had to do two presentations over 2 years. Having had to wait to get it in it seems to have been the right decision as they were competitive in their first season.

Would have been much simpler to get it going if the committee didn't drop the ball in a big way in about 2005!The Hound wrote:If Adelaide do apply for a women's licence hopefully SACA make them go through the process of applying as per all the other clubs.

Re: Grade Cricket
Going ahead as the same set up teams wise I've heard. Still some conjecture around how the fixtures will look in regards to the split of long and short form cricket. Juniors also staying the sametigerpie wrote:They can come and play for reynella anytime.

Same people who dropped the ball in 2005 involved with the merger proposal?heater31 wrote:Would have been much simpler to get it going if the committee didn't drop the ball in a big way in about 2005!The Hound wrote:If Adelaide do apply for a women's licence hopefully SACA make them go through the process of applying as per all the other clubs.

Played there and has been coaching at the club for a while with the lower grade teams I think. Don't know him personally but is highly regarded by the Sturt playersEagles2014 wrote:What’s his background?Tony Clifton wrote:Sam Fraser appointed senior coach at Sturt

Re: Grade Cricket
Saw that on their Facebook page. Looks like they are also going with a 1st Grade coach as well (along with batting and bowling which some other clubs also run with).Eagles2014 wrote:That will make a change from their last coach thenTony Clifton wrote:Played there and has been coaching at the club for a while with the lower grade teams I think. I've also heard they are in the mix for a couple of the new Redbacks recruits also. They could be around the mark next season, especially with Davis there full time.

Re: Grade Cricket
Think Sturt need to get one of the new Redbacks bowlers, their batting is very strong and making 400 not an issue. Getting 10 wickets is as their bowling line up is pretty weak. Would certainly make them finals team if they could get couple of decent bowlers.

Re: Grade Cricket
Agreed - they've only got one decent bowler (Kelly) and if he's unavailable they would struggle even more with their attack.Eagles2014 wrote:Think Sturt need to get one of the new Redbacks bowlers, their batting is very strong and making 400 not an issue. Re: Grade Cricket
No, we are not into Doggett as far as I know. He will be No.1 bowler for Redbacks so doubt any club would see much of him.Arch44 wrote:2 of the recruits are off to West Torrens including Doggett aren't they?Eagles2014 wrote:Think Sturt need to get one of the new Redbacks bowlers, their batting is very strong and making 400 not an issue. We have not chased anyone, but a couple have approached us thru Leigh Drennan as he recommended us as the Club to go to when they asked him

Re: Grade Cricket
Yes that is true, the Sydney Thunder connection with Ferg has helped. Ryan Gibson also put in good word after last year. But Doggett played with them and don't think we are getting him. The QLD guy asked Leigh where to play and as a Triple Premiership player he recommended the Eags!Arch44 wrote:More to do with having ties with Callum Ferguson.Eagles2014 wrote:No, we are not into Doggett as far as I know.
