Postby NFC » Sat Apr 18, 2009 12:48 am

Don't see a review thread yet...

Scores:

North 16.12.108
def
Norwood 11.7.73

Norwood were their typical pretending self tonight, as soon as we come up against a decent side we crumble. Trevor Hill is surely on borrowed time, as well as a few players.

I wondered out loud to a mate tonight whether Norwood fans would start slagging Hill.

When you look at the experience in that Norwood side you'd expect it to play a large major part of finals football, well that was my consenses anyway but as far as i'm concerned they're not that good at all, i know its only round 4 but f..k me dead $100k over the salary cap & only 1-3, they should be top.

About four years ago.

Well played North, Norwood pretenders again and the umpiring a disgrace.

About the only highlight was watching Hackland be carved up in the ruck and around the ground by Doyle.

The cold hard facts are that we were a talented kid away from finishing 7th last year .. Some big names in the squad these days, but most are slow and/or injured all the time ... Not to mention the Gold Passes to league selection they have and HandballMania XXVII

The three weeks North have played Ackland gets slagged by supporters from the opposite team - again last night. It will be interesting to see the stats - particularly the centre clearances and around the ground throw ins and ball ups cos again I thought he was one of our better players the way in which he at least nullified an opponent 5-6cm taller than him in ruck then proceeded to hustle and bustle till we won the majority of the clearances. We struggled a bit when he went off the ball. Our midfield of Ackland, Jimmy, Archard and Matt Wright (along with others who went in for a while) did a superb job.

As for a former Crows player giving away 3 stupid frees/50 metres along with a number of other turnovers- he ought to be dropped for next week. Must still be having Buddy Franklin nightmares!

last night at the game, norths smalls just worked so much harder than norwoods.add to this norwoods indirect use of the footy was terrible, norwood have to lift there workrate, over use the h/b on a number of occasions and there decision making was hopeless.every game ive seen jamie vlatco play has told me he aint up to sanfl footy, for one if he is the full forward and every time he leads he tries to take the mark on his chest, holy shit i taught every one of my juniors that ive coached, take the footy in ya hands especially if youre the ff.sorry norwood as a member vlatco is no good.umpiring was very, very ordinory but i dont think would have changed the score too much.

Very fair and reasonable post Cyclops.

Your supporter base would be pretty excited at the moment, North played an industrious, clean brand of footy last night and if the season pans out the way it could for you, you will be playing very deep into the year .. I take my hat off to Daniel Healy and those who appointed him.

You guys really seem to have an excellent balance that covers all bases ... Norwood continue to play like a group of individuals.

Norwood reminds me of the old saying: "The more things change, the more they stay the same".

Same old garbage last night I've been watching for over a decade at Norwood, and to be honest, I really don't feel like watching much more of it.

Healy knew the score, to beat Norwood all you need are quickish midfielders, wait for the inevitable turnover, then push the ball into spaces for the midfielders to run onto the ball and have it on the HF line before Norwood even know what's going on.

Conversely, when bringing the ball out of defence, Norwood love to chip the ball around, work it around the half back line, allowing for oposition players to get back and fill holes. This means Norwood's forwards are usually fighting 1-on-2 for possession.

This doesn't suit Vlatko's game at all. For him to be effective, we need to bring it down as North did last night, and give Vlatko space to lead. He cannot, and will never, be able to handle marking contests. Vlatko plays better at CHF or CHB IMHO.

Norwood never allow themselves to slip into a higher gear, we are one paced. Maybe because most of our guys would twang a hammy if they stretched out.

Looking around the ground last night, North were quicker, they were taller, and they were fitter. Just about every second Norwood player had some sort of bandage on them, or those ridiculous "achieve nothing" bike pants.

Simple statement: Hill cannot coach, he has NFI. Anyone who dares to argue that point knows nothing about football.

Forget Norwood, for 2009, and for as long as it takes the idiots in charge of that club to finally understand what is required to win football matches. I've had a gutful.

great win by the boys last night very well drilled unit but lets not get ahead of ourselves but did beat a side they will easily play finals this year. jimmy allan you are a super star the guy demands the footy in his hands and why wouldnt he his foot skills to hit targets is one of pure class. another guy that very rarely gets mentioned is millar the guy works his ass off and does all the team things imo should have been in the top 3 last night not the fastest guy out there but gets dirty and gets the ball out to our runners, i just wish heals would stop taking him off every 5 mins and maybe rotate the rest of the midfield. i dont like bagging my own players but does clarke look out of his depth imo he just looks like he struggles and doesnt read the play that great i watched his opponent kick a goal last night and he has a go at one of the young fellas as it was his fault dont finger point is what i say. but overall the mighty roosters are looking pretty good for season 09 even if it is only round 4.

Umpiring a disgrace??? One of the better performances for awhile by the men in white. They let the play go and were consistent both ways with interpretations on the night.

As for Doyle carving up Ackland??? If that is all you can hang your hat on then you will have a long year. Doyle is a slow cumbersome log. He is about as mobile as Herman Munster (who he looks like to a large degree too). Down to Bunnings topsy and buy two bolts for his neck!

I ventured down to The Parade last night where a disappointing home side were outclassed by the well coached North Adelaide side.

The Legs got up in the early game that saw Luke Nitschke play the first half in the reserves before being whisked into the rooms to join the league side after Port Power withdre David Rodan at the last minute, despite Rodan being at the ground ready to play. You should have heard Warren Partland from the Advertiser get stuck into the way Port treat their SANFL players and their clubs in the half time chat of the 5RPH call of the game. Anyway, here's some details from the 2 games:

RESERVES:
Norwood: 4.1 9.3 12.4 18.7 = 115
North: 4.3 5.5 9.6 10.9 = 69

RESULT: Norwood by 46 points

GOAL KICKERS:
Norwood: J.Juniper 5.1, J.Skinner, T.Schulz 3.1, L.Nitschke, R.Ah Chee 2.0, T.Baust, J.Aish, B.Hanna 1.0, B.Jeffries 0.1, rushed 0.2
North: J.Boras 2.2, T.Brown 2.1, S.Baulderstone, B.Renshaw 1.1, R.Mallard, J.O'Brien, S.Potts, A.Stephens 1.0, T.Blacksell 0.1, rushed 0.3

BETTER PLAYERS:
Norwood: J.Juniper, N.Jackman, J.Skinner, B.Dawe, L.Nitschke, R.Ah Chee, T.Schulz
North: R.Ebert, G.Gallman, S.Baulderstone, J.Starke, J.Boras

A pretty entertaining game of football in the early encounter with both sides going pretty hard at the ball and the contest well and truly alive up until 3/4 time before the Redlegs ran away in the final term to record a pretty comfortable win.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

LEAGUE:
North: 3.4 8.6 11.9 16.12 = 108
Norwood: 3.2 5.3 8.5 11.7 = 73

RESULT: North by 35 points

GOAL KICKERS:
North: L.Ryswyk 3.0, B.Schwarze 2.3, M.Motlop 2.1, D.Stewart 2.0, T.Stribling. R.Archard, J.Allan 1.1, Z.Miller, N.Brown, T.Armstrong, K.Thompson 1.0, C.Alleway 0.1, rushed 0.4
Norwood: L. Jericho 3.0, J.Gallagher 2.1, S.Rowe 1.2, J.Vlatko, S.Phillips 1.1, T.Weatherald, D.Terlich, J.Donohue 1.0, S.Doyle, N.Lower 0.1

BETTER PLAYERS:
North: M.Motlop, C.Alleway, R.Archard, T.Stribling, J.Allan, L.Ryswyk, A.McIntyre, M.Wright, T.Armstrong, D.White
Norwood: B.Zorzi, N.Duigan, J.Gallagher, L.Jericho, M.Davis

CROWD - 5,404 @ Coopers Stadium

The North Adelaide Roosters powered home to a strong 35 point victory at Coopers Stadium, running out victors 16.12 (108) to Norwood's 11.7 (73). A dissapointing Norwood side lacked any team cohesion throughout the course of the night, thanks largely to the immense pressure Daniel Healy's side placed on the home side. Turn overs were the story of the night for the Trevor Hill's charges and a lack of forward line potency, coupled with terrible delivery inside 50, was disheartening for the fans at the ground.

Hard working Clint Alleway was an excellent focal point both in attack and working up the ground for North and was certainly one of their better players while the explosive Marlon Motlop played what was probably his best game in the red and white jumper. North were simply the better side on the night and with their fast ball movement from defence and through the midfield capped off with supreme delivery into a potent attack including Stewart and Schwarze, new coach Daniel Healy would have liked what he saw.

Ever reliable defender Brett Zorzi was clearly Norwood's best player and was supported well by running half back Nick Duigan, who seemed to suffer a broken nose on the night. Luke Jericho showed flashes of why the Redlegs faithful were pleased to secure his services out of full time AFL football, including a magnificent running goal from out of the centre. Sam Rowe and Andrew Lee just did not present well enough across the half forward line for Norwood, while former Glenelg player Jamie Vlatko had a night to forget.

For North, Toby Stribling was superb, particularly early in the contest, while Rhys Archard and James Allan continued on with their great form. Andrew McIntyre was solid in defence and skipper Damon White played the controlling, quarterback role well. Leigh Ryswyk was superb off a wing kicking 3 goals including a spectacular check side from the boundary while Crows listed Tony Armstrong had some very good moments across half back. David Clarke also played well in defence for the victors.

North Adelaide would have walked away from their victory very satisfied with their performance and proved that with the right mix, will certainly be around the mark come the business end of the season. They still have some talented players on the side lines as well and with the likes of Younie, Whyman, Sporn and Tapscott to come back in, they can only get stronger. Norwood on the other hand will be keen to improve on the skill levels and will need to find a more efficient way of bringing the ball into attack where they need a key forward to stand up. Maybe a Jack Juniper, who kicked 5 goals in the reserves, will be given an opportunity.

The Roosters will head into their next clash against Sturt at Unley on Anzac Day Saturday full of confidence and will look to continue on their winning ways. The Redlegs will have to wait until the Sunday for their clash with West Adelaide at Richmond Oval and no doubt Trevor Hill will be expecting a much improved effort from his side.
