AFL Reserves Discussion...

Postby LPH » Wed May 29, 2013 7:26 pm

Did I just hear right on Channel 9?

$150,000 per season for the removal of the integrity of our League?
They need 6 out of 8 Clubs to vote yes?

Surely, the Clubs won't go for it?

John Olsen was just interviewed on 5AA.

With regards to AFL Reserves he said:

- Last on a long list of issues - didn't think it would be sorted for 2014.
- Very important to maintain integrity of the competition.
- League Directors get final say.
- Need to way up advantages and disadvantages.

If I was a betting man I would put money on there being no AFL Reserves in the SANFL league competition.

What is more concerning from what I could tell is the finances going forward. Doesn't seem to be any clear direction on what is going to happen with the development cash and the licenses seem to be going cheaper than they should. Especially given the SANFL is in large debt thanks to bailing Port out.

To each of the untainted clubs left left behind is what it should be.

$75k from each AFL club to every SANFL club.

The VFL/AFL made the SANFL pay a licence fee to join their league so we should be reciprocating if they want to join the SANFL......

$150k per club pa is bugger all, around 5% of most clubs annual revenue.

Wouldnt even help Sturt.

Also when you consider the potential drop off in Members and Sponsors clubs could be worse off.

Im now alot more confident in their being no AFL in our league comp after reading and hearing the interview.

The only clubs i could see voting yes would be Sturt and West and that would only be because of their financial situations.

Though in saying that the initial start up cost for a club like Sturt would be to much, eg, if they lost all of their Crows listed players that would be alot of initial money to outlay in new recuits, salary cap etc to put a competitive side on the park.

The week they played Centrals they had 6 AFL listed players. That frees up alot of their salary cap as less footballers are being paid for a league game by Sturt.

Im 100% confident Centrals and North presidents are anti AFL in SANFL so that leaves Glenelg, Norwood, South and the Eagles. Bassett from some of his quotes is anti the move as well but does his opinion reflect the clubs opinion.

I would hope that any 'vote' from a Club, would be put to the Members as an 'extra-ordinary' meeting.

I would also like to know which Clubs voted for & against.

Is 6 yes votes the magic number? Is there 9 directors? 8 SANFL clubs (minus Port) and a country rep? How many votes needed for this to go through?

It would be nice to hear from the clubs reasons for or against the concept at this stage, even if not their final decision.

Lol!

If there was one club where the members might vote it through it would be the Eagles!

Well that may be true (particularly of the over 70's) but...

All jokes aside, I would like to look them in the eye & have a reasonable debate over the issue.
If for no other reason but to put to the Club, as a paying member for over 10 yrs that they will lose my membership & support should they vote in support of this.

So if the SANFL Clubs vote no, The Crows and Power go to the VFL and the Power would pull the Magpies because they could not afford The Power, Power Reserves and and the Port Magpies.
Either way it is probably the death of the Magpies.

Same.

I would just go out occasionally and watch Elizabeth Downs in the div 1 amateur soccer league.

I would still go and support Norwood but WESLO would want to get more security because I can guarantee there would be more than abuse thrown at the Power and Crows sides.

Lots of talk about not going to the football if crows/power have a reserves side in the SANFL but I wonder how many West Torrens and Woodville supporters were also going to stop going to the football if they merged……
