Shark Week put the bite on Spud Factory this week but the Factory stayed up and Shark Week missed the eight on percentage. Shark Week needed destiny's uncles to defeat Delicious but Valleys cleaned up the Uncles and they will have a rematch in next week's Elimination Final. The other Elimination Final will be between Killer Wombats and red cans who are the promotion threat from outside of the top four. On last week's numbers the Wombats need to find over 200 points so they'll start as underdogs against the cans in their knockout final.

Jims TigerRoos look set to go up after quite a lenghty stay as they play against the FOOTYLEDGENS who appear to be the soft touch in the top four. The LEDGENS won their previous meeting and the loser of that match could go out in straight sets as the red cans could be the next opponent. Most teams would be pleased to avoid eddieslittleindians in the finals and Hips Don't Lie is their first finals assignment. The Hippys have had a very good season but the indians still look to be the team to beat. If Hips Don't Lie can win their Quallie they would go a long way to being promoted. Remember lads that you have to make the Grand Final in this league to get promoted.

In the bottom four Brown Boys pulled off the great escape. They managed to defeat the more fancied Moneybrawl combination and this sent the cobras crashing down into the relegation zone after they were flogged by his Nephew in the final round of the season.

Barring a disaster, I should progress through to the semi finals.

Currently leading 1971 > 1908

I have Pendles (c), Minson, Liberatore and Beams

vs

Pendles, Riewoldt, Priddis and Beams.

Finals Week 1 Results

Qualifying Finals

Jims TigerRoos 2450
FOOTYLEDGENS 2354

eddieslittleindians 2554
Hips Don't Lie 2407

Elimination Finals
red cans 2430
Killer Wombats 2344

Delicious 2489
destiny's uncles 2401

Is 2014 the year that perennial Division II powerhouse Jims TigerRoos finally get promoted to Division I? The TigerRoos are now only one win away from going up after they enjoyed a comfortable win over the FOOTYLEDGENS in the Qualifying Final. Premiership favourite eddieslittleindians overcame a significant obstacle in the form of an impressive Hips Don't Lie. The Hippys recorded a good score but it was peanuts compared to the awesome output of the mighty Indians.

In the knockout finals Valleys did indeed progress and did so in fine style in a high quality match up against destiny's uncles. It was the uncle's destiny to get knocked out in the first week of the finals so it's Divvy II again for them next season while hope is still alive for Delicious. The red cans missed the top four by a Bees Dick while the Killer Wombats only just made the eight in the end but the Wombats fought hard for their survival but in the end the cans were too good by 86 points.

Remember that you need to make the Grand Final in order to go up so the indians and Jimbo aren't there yet. In this week's Semi Finals I'm liking the red cans to send the Cub out in straight sets with the 'prize' being a match against the Indians to get promoted. The other semi sees Valley's late season form being put to the test by Hips Don't Lie. Earlier on I'd have tipped the Hippys but Delicious are playing Champagne football at the moment and could send the Hippys out in straight sets as well.

Amidst all the carnage of this weekend, its worked pretty well in my favour.

Bartel and Johnson out forced hips to play Bews and Lennon.

Then JPK goes down (hips has him as skipper), and Pendles being a late withdrawal gives us both a donut, but I collect Selwoods 110 as VC.

All boils down to tomorrow, but the current stance is:

Commmon players- Liberatore, Barlow, Fyfe, Sandilands

Delicious: 263 + Minson

Hips: Mitchell & Burgoyne

Should be pretty safe to progress through to the preliminary final, but will be sweating on JPK, Beams and Fyfe to name a few.

May well fall 1 short of the big dance.

Semi Finals Results

red cans 2342
FOOTYLEDGENS 2243

Delicious 2176
Hips Don't Lie 2010

The SuperCoach carnage that was Semi Final weekend seemed to affect this Division more than some others. Hips Don't Lie have been a scoring machine for the majority of the season and on paper looked set to defeat Delicious but after the dust settled from the collapsing walls it was Valleys who was left standing. FOOTYLEDGENS were in two leagues this season and got the double chance in both. They wen't out in straight sets in both of their leagues in what was a disappointing end to a much improved season from the cub. Kick'n'Back has now fought back strongly in the finals series and a 99 point victory was a just reward for some excellent form in recent weeks.

In Division II you need to make the Grand Final to get an automatic promotion to Division I so the four teams left in the premiership race haven't won anything yet. Winners of this weekend's Preliminary Finals will also be invited to represent the league in the Champions League next season. Long time power but somehow still stuck in Divvy II Jims TigerRoos is up against the seemingly indestructable Delicious who looked like missing the finals not all that long ago. In the other Prelim Final lucky red cans gets to play against eddieslittleindians who I reckon can win the whole comp.

I'm tipping the sides that had the week off to make the Grand Final and go up with the losers to think 'so close, yet so far'.

Through to the big dance and Division I/Champions league next season :D

Unfortunately for me, Eddies pumped out a huge score this week, and with 2 donuts to start the week next week- The Division II Grand Final is done before it started- i'm going to get walloped!

Still, to almost miss the 8 and make the GF, im pretty stoked with that. Im staring down the barrel at 0/2 in Hogg GF's......a touch of REB in that stat

Preliminary Final Results

Delicious 2140
Jims TigerRoos 1945

eddieslittleindians 2451
red cans 2147

In all the years of the Hogg Shield if you asked me to pick out the unluckiest coach I'd have to nominate Mythical Creature. His TigerRoos are always a high scoring team but in the past they could never win enough matches to appear at the business end of the season. This year, things had changed. The TigerRoos won the minor premiership and won their first final as well. All seemed headed to a long overdue promotion to Division I. However, poor old TigerRoos had the lot...Beams, Kennedy, Johnson, Murphy, Martin and Harvey. That turned his normal 2300's to a sub 2000 score and a Delicious victory. Valleys weren't untouched but had a shorter list of outs and they have won through to Hogg Division I and the Champions League next year.

In the other Prelim eddieslittleindians marched on to what is starting to look more like a coronation rather than a Grand Final next week against Delicious. eddie's outs included JPK and Martin but somehow he managed cover in the form of Taylor and Shenton. The red cans couldn't cover Ward, Beams and JPK and the result was ugly in the end.

So that's eddieslittleindians joining Delicious in the Champions League and Division I. The reward for losing Prelims in this league is......**** all. Don't you just love SuperCoach? ;)

Well done to the winners, very well deserved! Always fun playing Supercoach regardless of the result.

Guess I will butter up next year, unless somebody higher pulls out and I could sneak my way up!
