Talk on the national game

AFL Round 5 already and what goes with it

Postby Booney » Thu Apr 17, 2014 11:13 am

Easter weekend see's a few interesting games, looks like there is already a group at the top about to split away from the middle pack while the bottom 4 is starting to also take shape.

Brisbane v Richmond tonight at the 'Gabba
Collingwood v North
Sydney v Fremantle
West Coast v Port
Essendon v St.Kilda
Adelaide v GWS
Melbourne v Gold Coast
Bulldogs v Carlton
Hawthorn v Geelong

Matches of the round :

Obviously the top of the table Hawthorn v Geelong - We all know the history of these two sides in recent years and this one will be no different. Geelong fans seem to be just thinking their side might slip, those of us on the outside don't see it and I for one expect Geelong to be top 4 and challenging for the flag again this year. Hawthorn do look like the team to beat and picking this one is anyones guess. Hawthorn for mine, I think they have an excellent balance across the board ( not saying Geelong don't ) and think Hawthorns forwards ensure Harry Taylor stays back, just robbing Geelong of that little bit of flexibility they like.

West Coast v Port - West Coast got smashed by Geelong, Port smashed Brisbane. Impossible to line up any form on last weeks efforts. Port look to have more form in the big man department and for the first time in a while we can expect for our ruckman to match it with theirs. Lobbe is fit and in great form. West Coast get a list of midfielders back, but I'm backing Port's running game and ample forward option to prevail on the expanses of Subi.

Collingwood v North - North have stood up in the last two weeks to really show they mean business, if they really do, they'll account for Collingwood who just appear under manned and struggling for form up forward. Richmond offered no resistance last week.

Sydney v Fremantle - Fremantle got back to their game last week over Essendon and Sydney were crushed by Norths pressure, and nobody does pressure better than Fremantle. The little SCG makes for a tight contest and although I think Fremantle will win, Sydney will know it's season in the line stuff this week. If they go 1-4 it's a long way back from there. Fremantle to win for mine.

Hawthorn 16
Geelong Cats 16
Port 12
West Coast Eagles 12
Fremantle 12
North 12
Essendon 8
GWS 8
__________________________
Collingwood 8
Bulldogs 8
Gold Coast 8
St Kilda 8
Sydney 4
Richmond 4
Adelaide 4
Carlton 0
Brisbane 0
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Richmond - will keep season 2014 alive
North - their best is far better than the Pies'
Freo - to plunge the Swans into crisis mode
Essendon - everyone's knockout pick for the round
Port - hardest game to pick, the coin came up tails
Adelaide - more % you'd imagine
Gold Coast - the Dee's will still be hungover after last weeks win
Carlton - I don't know why
Hawthorn - reckon they might give the Cats a touch up.

Happy & safe Easter kids.

Gold Coast v Melbourne is a tougher game then people give credit to I think.

Its 3-2 Melb way, and Gold Coast have only won once at the MCG.. on top of the, last years win v Melb was only about 3 goals.

I want to go Carlton cos they have to win a game at some stage and the Bulldogs aren't that good. Would make a difference if I knew the ins for Carlton this week and whether some big names are back or not - anyone heard anything?

I'll counter that... Griffen has been VERY out of form. He's due and he's damaging. I hope for our sake carrots takes him and does a job on himbut iI'm not confident.

Magpies 66 to Kangaroos 33

Collingwood, in particular Travis Cloke is up and about so far, Cloke has been very dominant up forward for the Magpies, Jesse White has given him good support.

Boomer Harvey is having a stinker, coughing the ball up far too easily and putting his young teammates under pressure with poor disposal. North have been poor so far, their disposal efficiency will be proof of that.
