2011 finals - 8 goals and lose, 21 goals and win, 9 goals and win, 12 goals and win the premiership.
2012 finals - 12 goals and lose
2013 finals - 11 goals and lose, 12 goals and lose
2014 finals - 10 goals and lose
2015 finals - 11 goals and win, 7 goals and lose GF
2016 finals - 12 goals and win, 7 goals and lose GF
2017 finals - 5 goals and lose, 8 goals and lose
2018 finals - 8 goals and win, 7 goals and lose, 14 goals and lose prelim.

Not a great return, 3 wins from 13 finals since the premiership, but Eagles fans know they're going to be there in September. While you want to win them you can't deny he ( Godden ) has given your club plenty of opportunities.

Good post and there appears issues. Personally I rate Godden as in many of those years he has had to I think rebuild and rebuilt exceptionally. How many teams would like our record .

To differing degrees all teams have had to rebuild over those years, but it’s hard to argue with Godden’s record.

A lot of Glenelg supporters wanted Mickan out for the same reasons and would imagine many of them changed their opinion once the finals appearances dried up (topped off by Mickan winning a flag elsewhere)

I don't understand all the interchange protocols but I hope someone can explain how
1. North did not know the status of one of its injured player. Was actually on the ground.
2. the interchange steward at the end of 3/4 time does not know who is on/off
3.The guy with the magnets on the North bench does not realise an extra player is on.

He took no responsibility for the 19th man though.
Ultimately he's the coach and responsible for his players.

He could of at least made some sort of an apology to the Eagles.

Why should he apologise?

Coz he is in charge of a team that played outside the spirit of the game.
I'm not saying he made the mistake but he should apologise so it can be put to bed and everyone moves on.

The right decision was made but I think Carr should offer an apology still.

I think Godden has more to apologise for than Carr.

An acknowledgment that North had an extra man for 4 minutes and that this was ultimately his mistake probably wouldn't go astray.

Surely an apology is not going to make a lick of difference to Eagles supporters?

Wouldn't there have been an uproar in Judge Michael David's courtroom if the following had happened:

"You have been found guilty of stealing a car. I fine you $10,000 but you can keep the car".

The only solution that sits right with me, is a full replay next Sunday.

As Wedgetail said, if North win the GF it will have an asterisk next to its name.

If Eagles win the GF after this, it will also have an asterisk next to its name.

Norwood probably should they way they fit all these gun players under the salary cap too!!

SANFL may as well just finish the year up now and not bother playing the GF!

No I think the commission came to the right result, not that it is ideal. It just seems more ideal than overturning the result which I feel would have been too harsh a penalty given (1) parties agreed it was not an intentional cheat (just a very stupid error) and (2) it was not conclusive from the vision exactly what impact the 19th player had on those 3 mins 39 secs out of 120 minutes.

I do however feel for the Eagles and wish we had got to the GF without any "tainting" or whatever this is. I do however think that if we win on the weekend we deserve it (obviously) because it means we won on the day and that's all you can do.

Hondo wrote:
It should never be an "out" for a team that something didn't happen when it did just because an on field count wasn't done.

Yeah, this is the line I should have quoted.
FWIW any other result by the commission would have been a disgrace and I don't think the result should ever have been questioned, given the current rules, which I still think are adequate. Perhaps the SANFL would have launched it's own inquiry when a complaint was received and come up with similar penalties, but that wasn't the thrust of yesterdays meetings.
And I don't see the win or potential premiership as being "tainted" any more than any other right or wrong decision that occurs in a game, as distinct from playing unregistered players which I have heard some people (not on here) try to like then situation to.

Godden also coached in 2010, kicked about 100 points in upsets over Sturt and the Bays and then 8-9 in prelim final loss to Norwood.
The first two years he coached, other than the Norwood QF in 2011, it seemed like the Eagles had finally found a way to do the unexpected in finals, compared the Fuller era where, objectively, the Eagles neither over or underachieved. Since then it's been the complete opposite of those two. Perhaps the right players haven't been found to replace those of the ilk, grit or experience of McKenzie, Treeby, Powell, Cicca etc
