Dutchy, Kagey and Kermit Kornes are absolute idiots i doubt if either of them would of seen the tackle and naturally Kermit Kornes i will suggest would probably stick up for the Bays player and supporters point of view and say there was something wrong with a legitimate tackle i wonder why Hello ,maybe its got something to do with him being a Glenelg champion HELLO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

So get over it Dutchy it was a great tackle, over the years i have seen much worse and no reports.

It was unfortunate Rudolphs head hit the turf, Schelly did not see it.

No free was given for holding the ball, no free was given for an illegal tackle very simple to work out me thinks.

As per my previous posts over the years i do not listen to these two clowns anymore since they have been on the AFL bandwagon.

Kermit and Kagey are the laughing stock of most supporters who have any common sense.

 Classic comment D4E! I could just imagine the uproar if Rudolph had been penalised for holding the ball, I wonder how many 25 meter penalties the umpire would have awarded for going over the mark before he realised the poor sod was unconcious?
Oh he was unconcious maybe that's why he didn't dispose of it legally? If Dutchy is going too far in one direction I think you've run as far as you could in the other to bring this on to an even keel.

There is nothing in the rules to say that being unconcious is a reason for hanging onto the ball for so long.

If I wanted to really go over the top I would have suggested that Rudolph be reported for wasting time - but the siren going saved him

We need a "Rushby Hinds" pictorial inquiry on this one. :-k

I think it's time sanity prevailed. Daniel Schell did nothing illegal, either in the SANFL or the AFL for that matter. If the powers that be deem that sort of incident something they don't like, then the rules should be amended and then you can cry foul if it ever happens again. It is unfortunate the guy got hurt, but that's the nature of the game. From memory Daniel Havelberg's season was ended by his ankle getting wrenched by a Glenelg player. If we judge the legality of someone's actions by the seriousness of the injury then let's report that guy! So if you don't like what happened don't whinge about Schell's actions, whinge about the rules that allow it and lobby for change. I do wonder, however, how many of the people who have complained also decry the way the AFL has gone in banning many incidents which are in fact on balance more serious than this one. KG and Cornes (and their description of it being a "spear tackle" just show they either didn't see the incident, don't know what a spear tackle actually is or both!) were vocal in their criticism of many incidents attracting reports and suspensions, and I wonder whether this wasn't a Centrals player, not one of Cornes' beloved tigers whether they would be upset had Schell attracted a suspension for this. Particularly if it was a memeber of a local AFL side.

Anyway, great win. Sadly our 13 year preliminary final drought continues......

lets get one thing crystal clear for those that cant read -

Myself and other Bay fans have NO PROBLEM with the tackle, thats footy

The issue is the treatment afterwards was not necessary, it could have caused some very serious further injury.

Anyway enough of it IMO, play on

Did they really call it a "spear tackle"?
It was exactly the same one as Grima laid on Schell in the first quarter. A real beauty! When I saw Grima's tackle on Schell, I thought it was an indicator that the Bays had come to play. Sadly for the Bays, Grima was the only one with the intestinal fortitude and the wherewithal to show that physical presence.

The much talked about Schell tackle imo is best described as " cruel but fair "......something that should remain in "real footy". When it comes to finals the Dogs are the masters of intimidation and pressure .

It made the channel 10 news tonight - although they froze the action at the point of contact.

Salient points from the article are:
- they were apparently Central fans (though the lack of CDFC regalia suggests to me that they're finals bandwagonners)
- they will be prosecuted
- they've been barred from the Grand Final

effing morons. I only wish that Schell had been the one to tackle the bloke....

Don't ask me, we Glenelg fans haven't needed to concern ourselves with being barred from Grand Finals for a while...

It's a little sad to note most of the talk is about the pitch invasion and Rudolph getting hurt. Takes too much of the gloss off what might not have been our best second semi win (that was 2006 IMHO) but 9 in a row is something that may never be beaten within our lifetimes (except by Centrals next year perhaps!).

Anyway, do any bays fans wish to remind me of the comment I made months ago about McConnell being soft and lazy and not doing anything when the stakes are high? I seem to recall being told I was foolish to suggest such a thing. Will he retain his place if his hammy is ok? Is his hammy actually hurt or is that a way of saving face? Another forward who did little (except a cheap goal from a cheap mark and cheap 25 late in the game) was Duldig. A guy of that size should at least be noticed in the first 3 quarters. Would there be any chance of James Sellar coming in for either? Is there another hard in and under player in form? Bode and Backwell were very well contained (how Bode missed that sitter dead in front after we made a bad decision to spoil into the corridor still defies belief.

I still think Glenelg look a little undersized and underclassed down back. Especially Sunday without Sherwood. Even with him there they look somewhat vulnerable. And does the fact no KPP came in for Sherwood indicate that there is no option outside the senior side? I know Sellar is a forward line option but can he, Duldig or Grima (although you would need to be desperate to move him away from the goals IMHO) play down back if needed? If Sherwood and/or Rudolph don't get up for the Prelim what will be the story down back?

GrahamL

im not too sure many people would have argued with your points about McConnell and his playing style.

Yes Duldig didnt have a great game and im not a fan of his, but he had a few friends that went missing in action.

Not having Forest down back was a concern going in, I thought that they could have bought in a KPP from the 2's to fill that position.

Sellar wont be playing league this year and would need to improve to break into the league team, a few other players of similar styles have gone past him. he really needs to get some confidence, because the ability is certainly there.

sammy and forest will both play next week, dont worry about that.
