The only acceptable compromise to this whole issue, IMO. 8 team SANFL League, 10 team ressies with the Power and Crows "Academy" sides, and an 8 team 18s. Feel sorry for the genuine Magpies supporters though.

whats the difference between them being in the reserves comp or league comp? if it's about keeping the integrity of the SANFL then why is it better for them to play in a reserves over a league comp.

I'm referring mainly to the local competition, which USED to be very strong & full of kids, but now parts of Salisbury North & Salisbury aren't in Our zone.........for now

Foot-e Times covered it a fair bit in depth last year and ran a readers survey this season.

Maybe we should have a readers questions issue, readers ask questions and the panel does some research work to try & answer them.

Yes, this would be great. Can you set up a thread/email or whatever, so we can all fire away questions and then you can try and get answers to the questions you deem appropriate? This would be brilliant.

I understand from listening to Olsen's interview the other day that all questions won't be able to be answered fully, but they can at least give a response that illustrates consideration to the matter.

All the reserves players should be playing to get a chance to play league. Of course on the day they want to win the game and their aim would be finals and a premiership. But, this path is compromised along the way in order to satisfy the needs of the league team. Yes, by having Crows & Power reserves it would also compromise the SANFL Reserves competition and in some way that effects the league too, but it is by far and away the best case scenario for those who have the SANFL's best interests at heart.

That is why Port delisted about 8 Reserves before the finals a few years ago to bring U18 guys up stating that the reserves success is not important and it was better to bring the young guys up to get experience even if we then lost in the first week of the ressies finals

The Club is greater than the individual & the aim of The Club is to win A Grade Premierships. It's nice to win reserves premierships but can you remember who won the 1998 ressies flag? the 2000 ressies flag?

The Power won't care if their ressies side, the Maggies, wins a flag.

I remember the 97 reserves flag and only because of the Video I have of a very drunk Tim Ginever and Barry Curtain dubbing over the commentary while consuming a carton of West End. The best parts are when you hear them cracking them open while simply taking the Piss out of all the Magpie Players.

A clubs goal is to win a League Flag, if that can't happen, then they can take a Reserves, if both of those Can't happen, then an u18s flag would do. I remember the 2000 u17s, u19s and reserves flags went to the Eagles.

If the power had a reserves side in the sanfl reserves comp why would they need to get rid off the league side?

I know speaking to one club official (not Norwood BTW) that believes very strongly that one of the conditions of Port entering a AFL reserves side into the SANFL reserves comp will be that all other Port sides must be withdrawn from the comp. As he has stated several times before, no other AFL club has an U18's or U16's so why should Port.
From what he has told me several officials from other clubs feel the same way
