Couldn't get to Betting Auditorium one fri, got told that I could go down to the track (Cheltenham) & get a bet on there.
Now as I approached the front gate, I said to Security "mate, I just want to go in & place a bet on the footy, is that ok?"
His reply was "you must pay $9 for entry"
me: "your joking? I'll be in there for 3 minutes!" (it was 11:15, no races for at least a half hour, in fact, hardly anyone there)
"you have to pay that's the rules" + some pathetic garbage "I'm just doing my job"
he then followed up & said that's what peoplle pay $9 to get into the races for- the right to bet.
I said "no, they pay $9 to watch a days racing, not to put 1 footy bet on".
Anyway, I realised I was dealing with a guy on the lower end of the evolutionary scale, so I summoned his boss.
Pled my case, he at least (after emphasizing his cadet was right) saw reason & escorted me to the bookies, where I got my bet on (North to beat West at the points- I got up by 6 points).
Now what a ridiculous situation we have in this state, where I can't get a footy bet on, on a saturday- the very day they play!
I like to know teams & weather conditions before parting with (what I consider) decent money.
Why is the Auditorium hamstrung by draconian rules?
Who controls the governance of these rules? SAJC? the Government?
Why must the Auditorium be shut 1 hour before a race? To make sure that the 5 people in there go to the races?
What about the pub tabs? do they shutdown 1 hour before the races start?
This is just ridiculous, as they developed this white elephant, & put rules in place to make sure it's an uphill battle.
Oops, my apologies, it's a success- the pokies are raking in the money....

So here we are saturday morning, & I can't get a bet on the SANFL... is the war still on?
