Long Angry Tirade Against the Auditorium Rules

Postby Punk Rooster » Sat Aug 19, 2006 12:01 pm

Bayman will back me up here...

Couldn't get to Betting Auditorium one fri, got told that I could go down to the track (Cheltenham) & get a bet on there.
Now as I approached the front gate, I said to Security "mate, I just want to go in & place a bet on the footy, is that ok?"
His reply was "you must pay $9 for entry"
me: "your joking? I'll be in there for 3 minutes!" (it was 11:15, no races for at least a half hour, in fact, hardly anyone there)
"you have to pay that's the rules" + some pathetic garbage "I'm just doing my job"
he then followed up & said that's what peoplle pay $9 to get into the races for- the right to bet.
I said "no, they pay $9 to watch a days racing, not to put 1 footy bet on".
Anyway, I realised I was dealing with a guy on the lower end of the evolutionary scale, so I summoned his boss.
Pled my case, he at least (after emphasizing his cadet was right) saw reason & escorted me to the bookies, where I got my bet on (North to beat West at the points- I got up by 6 points).

Now what a ridiculous situation we have in this state, where I can't get a footy bet on, on a saturday- the very day they play!
I like to know teams & weather conditions before parting with (what I consider) decent money.
Why is the Auditorium hamstrung by draconian rules?
Who controls the governance of these rules? SAJC? the Government?
Why must the Auditorium be shut 1 hour before a race? To make sure that the 5 people in there go to the races?
What about the pub tabs? do they shutdown 1 hour before the races start?
This is just ridiculous, as they developed this white elephant, & put rules in place to make sure it's an uphill battle.
Oops, my apologies, it's a success- the pokies are raking in the money....

So here we are saturday morning, & I can't get a bet on the SANFL... is the war still on?

well Punky it is hard to argue with that.

i think it is legislation that the auditorium is closed when there is a metro meeting on so that would mean it is the governments fault.

I think that the bookies in the Auditorium would be better served having an office elsewhere so that they arent caught up in the opening hours chaos. mind you Johnny has left at 7pm on some friday nights and im not sure if that is still the case.

I guess it is even more reason for UNITAB to give us back our footypunt, i mean every other state has it. UNITAB give there QLD patrons both fixed odds on rugby league plus pick the margins etc. whats the difference between there pick the margins and our old footypunt???

heres an idea about punting on the footy on saturdays by having to go the races.

maybe if your intention is to place a footy bet, you pay $5 and get a pass, once you have had your footy bet you return it to the entrance and get your money back. maybe it needs to be done before the first local race and maybe a time restriction of 15 minutes???

it should be free entry to the gallops anyway

any thoughts?

There is no logical reason that the Auditorium should be shut- are the TAB's/PubTAB's shutdown an hour before the races?
No.
3 words- Restraint of Trade.

There is this preoccupation of the administrative beurocrats
to not have competition to the city meetings by shutting down
the Auditorium.
The real world has superceded this draconian rulemeistering.

This is the evolution of MAL.[and others]
I used to frequent the races/trots/dogs in the 70-80's
In the 90's I vacated to the TAB's and the pubtabs + Auditorium because
it was FREE to get in and the meals were CHEAPER and the COMFORT
level was far superior, less petrol, no carpark admissions etc.
In the 2000's I stay at home with my Tab accounts,Internet betting, Betfair,
Best Bookies accounts, watching the races on Skychannell in the comfort
of my humble abode.
I can eat HEALTHIER meals, cheaper than the pubs/racecourses etc.

The moral to the MAL evolution is if the powers to be are concentrating
on Auditorium crowds dwinding the racecourse attendances then that logic
is antiquated and absurd.
What the bubbleheaded boobies need to do is close off internet form, close of
phone betting accounts, cancel my skychannell subscription, ban my Internet
Bookmaking accounts..........Thats the real world, welcolme to it.

The SAJC should be on the Stock Exchange....listed as the all ordinaries........

What about your efforts in high school BAYMAN.
Remember the day you came home from school and said to your dad
"Dad today I found out Ive got the biggest dick in year 11."
And Dad replied
" Whadya expect son your 19 years old!"

As for the AUD its a place of great potential if the powers to
be made some adjustments
