Come on Ted, stretching the truth a bit mate there or stretching something I think. Callaghan was no angel granted, but there was no one quick enough in Adelaide Turf to have him squealing like a little girl. Trust me, I COACHED him at both Kilburn and Gepps Cross for nearly 9 years and I would pick him in my side every day of the week mate.
The only guy with genuine toe and who had a bit of grunt about him and was a genuinely fantastic guy was Steve Matchett, from Pulteney. Over a 9 year period of playing against Pulteney and the vast social differences between Pulteney and Kilburn/Gepps Cross, both sides had a healthy respect for each other and looked very much towards playing each other. Initially Pulteney had the wood on my sides, but in the end we probably broke even as the Pulteney guys got a little older.
So unless you are Steve Matchett mate, you were not quick enough to put the wind up anybody let alone Callaghan. You might have come off 40 metres, thought you were quick, but just another little medium pacer sport.
Give me Callaghan anyday of the week as a Cricketer over anyone you played with Teddy boy. I know I had some of the best talent, best blokes, guys who would put in all day long and although they were never angels, they were bloody good cricketers. So stop trying to make yourself out to be Brett Lee and scare people, as you were just another sideways ball wobbler, who bowled half rat power. Give me Callaghan, Mordaunt, Brooks, Summers, Eldridge, Deitrich, the Daunt twins and a host of others we had at Kilburn and then at Gepps Cross and I will give you a very happy coach.
I was the lucky coach, we were not angels, we won premierships and how dare you have a go at someone who would play you
with a stump - certainly not this big brute tearaway quick. Might have been you with a heart like a split pea Teddy boy.
