Sledging

Local cricket is the go here. Any talk about local comps, grade cricket, etc.

Had this in the wrong thread, in footy, not cricket

Playing a low level game and these two openers had seen off the new ball and were settled in comfortably against the slower guys. One guy had dominated the scoring and was about 41 - 42 and his mate was on three, with a couple of extras, after about 20 overs. The more aggressive bloke hit another four and brought up the 50 partnership.
All the teammates on the sidelines give it a solid clap, 'keep going boys, make sure you cash in' etc.
At the end of the over, a few balls later, our wicketkeeper walks past the bloke on three not out and says
'You know that applause had nothing to do with you'.
We didn't get him out for a couple more overs as he stonewalled away, but one of the great lines.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

One of our u/14 was playing a D grade game and was getting stuck into the opposition captain.
After a while he turned to our captain and said "can you shut that kid up"
The junior responded with "Don't make me treat your missus like a bowling ball. I'll put 3 fingers in her then throw her in the gutter".
This same junior was fielding in close. Our captain said to a batsmen "Better look out, he eats a cricketers box for lunch" The junior then said "yeah, then i'll eat your mums"

I played a Z grade game about two years ago and was trying to hit sixes to the longest part of the ground (square leg area). Their captain was bowling crappy lolly pop off spin, and he sledged me by saying "good shot selection (expletive)....." after I got dropped for about the fifth time near the longest square boundary. I didn't hear it, but my batting partner did and walked down the pitch and said "did you hear what he said". I said "no", and so he repeated it to me. I thought, right, how can you bowl crappy off spin and sledge? So next ball he put it full and outside off stump and I hit it over cover/wide mid off into their cars, for six. I walked down, did some gardening and said "how'd you like that for shot selection"?

Interesting part was, I got out for 92, and after the game he came up and said "not the best 90 I've ever seen".

I said to him "still about 80 more than you're capable of".

Kilburn and Gepps Cross from about 1994 through to about 2002, were a disgrace when it come to sledging.
Brooks, Callaghan, Eldridge, Deitrich, Mordaunt, Hosie and a never ending list of morons who would not shut up from
the start of the game to the end. Won them a fair few flags and always in the finals. but could not help themselves.
Who else - Robertson, two Daunts, Braunack and a cast of thousands all without a brain.

They all left Kilburn after about 8 years and all migrated to Gepps Cross and my god, it was like a circus act
on the field. Only missing the painted face and big floppy shows it was a side show act. A good mixing of guys who
collectively had a IQ of less than room temperature.

Dont think I have ever played in a 10 year era where it was so uncomfortable to play against 11 guys who would
not shut up about anything for 5 hours. They always mainted that the ends justified the means and sure they
won flags and the finals always but cant condone how they played during this time. Just was not cricket. It got to a
point where batsman actually got out because they could not put up with the verbal and mental assault, ball after ball.

The last Premiership that Hosie coached with those morons at Gepps Cross, apparently he dropped the vice captain from
the side because he did not sledge enough. Fancy getting dropped from a GF for not sledging enough. Apparently Hosie
and his crew of morons actually condoned the greatest amount of sledging the best.

The worst thing about it all is that they won the GF again and I still cant forgive them for taking cricket to new levels
of poor behaviour

in all their bloody sides they had Mordaunt, Eldridge and Callaghan all within earshot of the batsman the whole time and the crap did not stop. Just to top it off Brooks, Hosie or one of the other morons was bowling and giving it to you as well. Between all this you copped the regular crew passing through at the end of each over telling you about your Mum, Sister, Wife and various other family members and what they might be doing to pass the afternoon away. Toss up between Mordaunt and Callaghan as to who was the worst of the worst side you could ever play

Woodville Districts V United Districts
A lad known as Dingo was bowling for us to a Uniteds top order batter
He beat the bat 5 times in 5 balls
As Dingo got back to his mark I yelled out to him
" Hey Dingo lets see how ******* good you are , see if you can hit his bat."

Yes Callaghan is one of the worst. Threatened to kill me after I talked to him when I was batting and he was keeping. Suffering from a bit of white line fever myself later that day when Callaghan opened the innings I came off the 40 metre run and just bowled as fast as I could. He s hat his pants like a little school girl and tried to appeal to the umpries for bad light despite the sunshine and clear sky. Enjoyed giving him a send off after I uprooted his middle stump.

Come on Ted, stretching the truth a bit mate there or stretching something I think. Callaghan was no angel granted, but there was no one quick enough in Adelaide Turf to have him squealing like a little girl. Trust me, I COACHED him at both Kilburn and Gepps Cross for nearly 9 years and I would pick him in my side every day of the week mate.

The only guy with genuine toe and who had a bit of grunt about him and was a genuinely fantastic guy was Steve Matchett, from Pulteney. Over a 9 year period of playing against Pulteney and the vast social differences between Pulteney and Kilburn/Gepps Cross, both sides had a healthy respect for each other and looked very much towards playing each other. Initially Pulteney had the wood on my sides, but in the end we probably broke even as the Pulteney guys got a little older.

So unless you are Steve Matchett mate, you were not quick enough to put the wind up anybody let alone Callaghan. You might have come off 40 metres, thought you were quick, but just another little medium pacer sport.

Give me Callaghan anyday of the week as a Cricketer over anyone you played with Teddy boy. I know I had some of the best talent, best blokes, guys who would put in all day long and although they were never angels, they were bloody good cricketers. So stop trying to make yourself out to be Brett Lee and scare people, as you were just another sideways ball wobbler, who bowled half rat power. Give me Callaghan, Mordaunt, Brooks, Summers, Eldridge, Deitrich, the Daunt twins and a host of others we had at Kilburn and then at Gepps Cross and I will give you a very happy coach.

I was the lucky coach, we were not angels, we won premierships and how dare you have a go at someone who would play you
with a stump - certainly not this big brute tearaway quick. Might have been you with a heart like a split pea Teddy boy.

So basically what you are saying amateur is that you coached a side that were good cricketers but ordinary blokes. Pretty much what has been said in earlier posts. Thanks for confirming that.

Just telling you what happened AF. There was a bit of tongue in cheek in the 40 metre run up bit. Obviously you're not familiar with Sarcasm? Must have hit a nerve. You sure you're not writing this on behalf of Callaghan? I know it wouldn't be him writing this because your English is a lot better than this. He is without doubt the worst sledger I've played against.

You reckon you can post something without having a go at other posters on the forum? I've read your 5 posts and all you've done is have a crack at other posters. I'm not going to resort to that; just going to suggest that maybe you write something constructive. As for Callaghan playing me with a stump? You are dreaming AF.

Have to agree Callaghan is one of the biggest wankers i have met on a cricket field and whats worse he cant bat. Matchett maybe quick but ive played with a couple of quicker bowlers in atca.

Matchett is sharp (and a very good bowler as well) but you are right that there are quicker bowlers around. Not necessarily as good but quicker.
