Format Alrite always tricky with an odd number of teams. I reckon GF would have given city a run for there money. Tasmans in it is a terrible idea. Yes there going Alrite atm but didn't play in grandfinal last year meaning malles and waybacks should be in before them. A draw that's means whoever wins the last game on monday wins carnival would be ideal. To try and create a grandfinal type game

Instead of 1 v 3 and 2 v 4, 1 v 2 as the last game, grand final. Doneski.

we need to male the carnival more competative, because at the moment whoever draws far west and KI gets a huge and unfair advantage. City are a long way infront of all other sides. If Tasmans being in their own made it more competative then we would consider it. It was mentioned but not by me mp.
Tasmans would easily beat fw and KI so I think we will look at the idea.

BTW what is your idea for the perfect Mortlock Shield competiton? Instead of bagging people why not post a positive thought on how we can get sides more competative.

Post away

gee no wonder you have some dramas down there in admin if wanks like you are running it. tasmans havnt won anything since 92 and still havnt. i would have thought 1 v 2 for the shield on monday arvo would seem logical, 3 v 4 and somtimes one of those would win it as was in the past. GF v city would have been an excellent game as we had a very good team also.

Nail, Head, hit it on.
The amount of people who couldn't believe that 1) GFFL didn't play City in the last game, 2) Districts got an award.

Forget the draw, how can people want to come back year after year, when only one Monday game (FWFL V KIFL) was competitive.
Districts flogged FW and KI in the A.M.
GFFL were too good for Eastern Eyre, and City flogged Mid West.

City v GFFL would have been awesome.
Districts v Mid West would have been solid.
EE v KI v FW would have been a bit more even.

Great day of competitive footy, everyone goes home happy.

Assuming Roxby come in next year, that'll make an 8 team comp. So how about 2 divs with all matches played in 2 x 20min halves (both Sat and Mon)?

Saturday Div A (with rankings allocated on last year's performance):
1 vs 3
5 vs 7
3 vs 5
1 vs 7

Saturday Div B:
2 vs 4
6 vs 8
4 vs 6
2 vs 8

Monday Div A:
1 vs 5
3 vs 7

Monday Div B:
2 vs 6
4 vs 8

Then, in the afternoon we have the following playoff matches from each division:
7 vs 8
5 vs 6
3 vs 4
1 vs 2 (for the shield)

Works out to pprox 8 hours of footy on both the Saturday and Sunday. Everyone plays 4 matches for the carnival (playing everyone else in your pool), with the highest rank teams from each pool playing off in the GF.

All this talk of tasmans playing is BS for once I agree with DJD (although for an amalgamated super club in 1997 Cougars have
had a fair drought since 2001)
Back to reality GF v City would have been the game of the weekend.
Very few stayed for the last game. Lets assess where the EP is going in the next five years.
It looks as though areas like Tumby Bay will forge a head with the proposed mining
Roxby has an expansion happening, although getting a full strength side to gether presents a problem.
Ceduna is also starting to get significant employment opportunties.
KI unfortunately looks like its dead in the water.
Talking to a couple of SE footballers who were here on the weekend they have nothing like the Mortlock
down there way maybe we need to look further afield.
Ideas? Comments

Would the south east boys be able to get a team together and travel?

If they get a full strength side they would probably push aside Port Lincoln easily.

I thought about that Heater but our recipricol trips to KI cost the PLFL about $15,000
a couple of years ago(that figure might not be exact but quite a lot) But maybe we could look at
another country assoc with similar standard of football instead of KI

Yeah, from country footballers I know from other leagues are slightly jealous of Mortlock weekend as all of the similar competitions around the state died out years ago.

Whyalla and Spencer Gulf could be other possibilities?

Konitzka and Jeffries were always going to get an EP gig given who the selectors are this year. I am mystified how someone who is not a registered player in the zone here can make a zone sqaud. Maybe one of the selectors is Nostradamus

We dont need Whyalla! even though they are in our zone they are not worth talking to as they have no foresight whatsoever.

Combine Far West and Mid West and make it 6 teams is my prefered option. The Tasmans idea has some merit if we need to extend to 8 sides.
How can you have 1v2 and 3v4 ? The 3rd side could draw KI or FW (if KI and FW were to play each other in the minor round one of them, the winner, would probably finish 4th). Then we would have the debacle of a tight 1v2 game and them a 20 goal win to the 3rd side. We would see sides trying to finish third if they were around the mark of finishing 2nd or 3rd.

Does PL footy really need the Tigers, after last years efforts I'd say no. It's a bye anyway, might as well just call the day off and go fishing!![/quote]

Are you saying there is a connection here with the selectors CU? Get out surely Levi is deserved of his selection living in the NT.......PS I do rate him as a footballer but this is not right.
