Fitzroy are definitly an experienced, settled unit who just simply out-played us on the weekend. They are a team full of older guys (compared to our kids) and this experience and strength showed. I cant say they have alot in the B's to come thru, and definitly not alot of young kids, but in the main game we were simply smashed. They were clean, aggressive, moved the ball well and finished well. We had alot of younger lads who were roughed up and pressured into poor decisions and poor disposal and I think this aided the Roys cause greatly. Mind you, our skills and turnovers were terrible and we were bitterly disappointed in this part of our game which is usually very good but obviously the pressure put on by Fitzroy highlighted them more. We got within a goal early in the last but a couple of great bits of play by them with the wind at their tails saw them grab momentum and run away with it.
Losing our CHB very early in the piece was a huge loss as was a few late withdrawls. We showed some good signs but the difference was our poor skills and decisions and experience.
Late in the game turned a bit ugly but you get that sometimes... Fitzroy did what they needed to do to win and take the points. Can't say the two midgets in orange had the best of days but i doubt the result would have been affected. Fitzroy deserved the win and if we take anything out of the loss it's that 2009 aint going to be an easy year. But we never expected it to be easy anyway so the hard yards continue on the track this week. Put it behind us and think about the next game I say !!
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.
