How is promoting the league (via any form) a conflict of interest? Local football survives on volunteerism - the league's decision to axe volunteers (who help promote the league) is a DISGRACE and the absolute definition of conflict of interest. Clubs try so hard to secure volunteers and now we have the league sending the message that they are not wanted - UNBELIEVABLE

WW..why ask "please explain" then play ducks and drakes?? you are obviously as well informed(probably better) than I but hide behind a shroud of secrecy...if you dont know or care or wont comment then dont ask

Quichey..absolutely correct.....why dont the delegates (who are volunteers) not attend the next SAAFL meeting, nothing can be decided because there arent enough member clubs present and then when the fines roll out from SAAFL house the clubs who are run by volunteers dont pay the fines...IT IS OUR COMPETITION WE THE CLUBS MAKE THE RULES
Opinions and bumholes..you either have one or are one IMO

I reckon if you go back a couple of posts its fairly clear that i have tried to get an idea of what information has come to light (thus the please explain) and then reply with the FACTS of the situation trying
not to let my personall opinions interfere with those definant facts.
As for what someone else wrote "jumping on a gravy train" im not sure what that means. I also am an unpaid volunteer of the saafl though and if you read my FACTS i think you can tell where im coming from.

I would have thought you at least would have been able to see through that one.
Keep getting rid of the workers who do it for FREE under the guise of "conflict of interest" and replace them with PAID staff, i.e. Ashley Porter and the Amateur budget & Grassroots.
Most club people are UNPAID, so if the SAAFL wants clubs to pay for the media junk that's being dished out but at the expense of getting rid of FREE HELP, then clubs have every right to vent their collective spleens.

No worries, well said sir. Probably a bit defensive on my behalf as the 2 people who are no longer part of the grassroots team are my friends and i have a great deal of respect for them.I also have learnt a lot regerding amateur league from both of them.
The only other thing i would like to clarify is that the remaining members of the grassroots team do NOT get paid. Those unpaid panel members are Peter Thatcher, Mick Emmet, Tommy Javor and Jase Kemp. As for anyone elses role within SAAFL i am not sure where the money the clubs contributes goes.

Being that this is meant to be about 1197 i would like to actually comment on todays show. I did get up and listen to the entire show for the first time. The first 20 mins of the show were as people have been saying, not about the SAAFL. However from that point i thought the show was ok. Allbeit not overly researched the 3 guys did talk about a variety of amateur league games, stats and talking points. There was 2 points during the show that made me cringe with horror and shake my head at a rate of knots. Having said that on the whole the show was not bad. I dont know if todays show was better than usual or the guests improved it or how it compares with previous shows but it certainly was not as bad as i expected.

i was listening this morning and in particular waiting for the Div 5 overview but alas at about 8.55 am sorry but we cant do Div 5 we have run out of time. IMO if they didnt rave on about the stock market and general drib drab which had nothing to do about the show they wouldve had time to spare and give an opinion on that Div. keep it bloody simple

So what are we, as clubs, paying for?

Recipes and stock market tips.

Decent coverage of ALL Divisions with at least a little bit of research (how hard is it to pick up a phone and ring a few clubs each week?) would be nice.

This show is getting beyond a joke to the point that it is almost obsolete - money down a toilet.

Very fair point mate, that would frustrate the shit out of me if i waited for my division and they didnt mention it. especially seems its such a talking point with sarge and freddy playing for pulteney os(yes i know you beat them)
on a brighter note div 5 fans, this weeks GRASSROOTS has Steve Simons your coach as the special guest. with 14 mins devoted to him and your club. replay of this weeks show is on at 10.30 am on sat on ch.31.your clubs delegate also gets a copy if you are only on digital at home and you miss it. He was all class and represented your club beautifully i reckon. Good luck for the rest of the year.
To conclude, talking about just amateur league footy on the show is probably not that crazy an idea

i saw the big man grenville dietrich at theby wed night lookin at state trainin. is he still involved with your club??
had him as an umpire about 3-4 years ago and he was the very best ump i have ever had officiate the game. no b/s. he was fair and just seemed to be able to read every part of it,frustrations, people playin for free kicks, how to control it and had a sense of humour about it all. he may not be your modern day poster child for a footballer but he is ALL class.

again all i can say is....it would frustrate the crap out of me if i were in divs 4-7ish and my club payed money for exposure and didnt get it. basics like ; who is beefa mussolino (excuse spelling) should be one of the simple basics the show should know about. my good mate big al williams speaks very highly of a lot of the people at your club. you have a unique club worth the air time you pay for
