personally cant see how they can make a leeway for any club,as hard as that may seem. All clubs get 15 points to play with on any given saturday, end of story.[/quote]

so you would let smithfield fall..rather than let them go over points to get a team on the park?

i have to ask pag..with smithfield and paralowie folding..your stance on not giving any leeway of points to anyone no matter what..what if both of those clubs could survive but needed to go over the 15 points via heavy recruiting..would you agree with them going over points or folding? :) i know paralowies problems are $$ not players but smithies problems were definitely player numbers..
I understand Smithfield's problem was player numbers, but to be honest, I don't think it would matter in this case, because if the league gave Smithfield an extra 5-10 points right now I don't think you would find too many A Grade footballers from other clubs willing to head out there in the current climate.

And to Smithfield's credit, they don't pay players huge money, so that wouldn't be a carrot for guys from either clubs either. Also to Smithfield's credit, they've always tended to have very good junior numbers and I'm sure that's where their focus will head for the next 2-3 years to get their senior side back up and running.

but you didnt answer my question pag..yes or no? :)

Why would they have to go over the points zed? Couldn't they go out and recruit a bunch of guys worth 0? Every B/C grader in the state is worth 0, it's not like it's a tiny little pool to pick from.

pag: you wont answer will you.. :)

hypothetically..why would they recruit b/c graders..to just get relegated?..be real..if they could recruit enough A graders to put a team on the park but be over the points you wouldnt let them do it..right?

this is exactly what i was getting at weeks ago..you guys would rather see clubs fall over than grant any leeway..thats your call and your opinion..but dont back away from it now we are at the coalface with real clubs going under..

Their core A grade wasn't the problem. IMO, they needed to recruit 10-15 B grade/fringe A graders to increase their depth. So they would be recruiting to boost numbers and stay alive, which would have helped keep all their A graders that were already there, stay...

That's spot on the money. They didn't need A Graders mate, their A Grade wasn't a a bad unit. The fact that they were struggling to put a B Grade on the park tells the story, while having a good A Grade, means that they only needed some guys for a kick and a catch, not A Grade matchwinners asking for $200-$300 a game.

They should only recruit guys worth 0, to avoid going over the points limit, because 15 points is the rule mate. Hypothetically, next year if lose 8-10 A Graders, and I ask you if we can have some more points because we might not be able to field a D Grade, what would you say?

To answer your question bluntly, no, I wouldn't like to see any club go out and recruit 8-10 A Graders, regardless of the situation, as it goes against the purpose of having the APPS in the first place. Smithfield, who I have a lot of respect for, aren't the type of club to go out and do that anyway.

I'm as disappointed as anyone that Smithfield are folding, hate to see it, but if you gave Smithfield extra points to stay alive, and their A Grade went on to win the flag, every other club in Div 5 would have the right to feel pretty aggrieved I would think.

yeah OE except they get told its the other way around..playing both sides at once..

pag and SD..it was a hypothetical question..not to be used with their actual positions or style..3 clubs in SFL have been given leeway to go over points..my point is this..some here through stubborness would rather see a club fold than grant any leeway in regards to points..and i think thats not the reason apps were brought in..if the APPs create a position were a club could fold then its a shocking system..marion would have folded without being granted leeway..common sense prevailed..i wonder if it would in the SAAFL if the situation arises? i hope so..but some wouldnt have it that way..ever..

Good hit out last night at Kilburn - the u23 side were looking remarkably sharp considering the time of year and the heat.

Was too busy gasbagging to pay too much attention to the 2nd game.

Shrek didn't get a kick though

They left on good terms, helping a brother in law out at another club, no one can begrudge them for that, if any of the players we lost wanted to come back there wouldn't be any problems that's for sure.

I think you will find Broadview & Flinders Park have been given 2 extra points each. Now have (17) to play with.
