hypothetically..why would they recruit b/c graders..to just get relegated?..be real..if they could recruit enough A graders to put a team on the park but be over the points you wouldnt let them do it..right?
this is exactly what i was getting at weeks ago..you guys would rather see clubs fall over than grant any leeway..thats your call and your opinion..but dont back away from it now we are at the coalface with real clubs going under..
Their core A grade wasn't the problem. IMO, they needed to recruit 10-15 B grade/fringe A graders to increase their depth. So they would be recruiting to boost numbers and stay alive, which would have helped keep all their A graders that were already there, stay...
That's spot on the money. They didn't need A Graders mate, their A Grade wasn't a a bad unit. The fact that they were struggling to put a B Grade on the park tells the story, while having a good A Grade, means that they only needed some guys for a kick and a catch, not A Grade matchwinners asking for $200-$300 a game.
They should only recruit guys worth 0, to avoid going over the points limit, because 15 points is the rule mate. Hypothetically, next year if lose 8-10 A Graders, and I ask you if we can have some more points because we might not be able to field a D Grade, what would you say?
To answer your question bluntly, no, I wouldn't like to see any club go out and recruit 8-10 A Graders, regardless of the situation, as it goes against the purpose of having the APPS in the first place. Smithfield, who I have a lot of respect for, aren't the type of club to go out and do that anyway.
I'm as disappointed as anyone that Smithfield are folding, hate to see it, but if you gave Smithfield extra points to stay alive, and their A Grade went on to win the flag, every other club in Div 5 would have the right to feel pretty aggrieved I would think.
