Symonds Maiden Test Century

Is that enough to give him a Test spot?
I think he deserves a chance to prove himself, he's got one under pressure.

Yes a credit to him.
Didn't think that he would last for long and looked a bit like a rabbit in the spotlight early but has performed exceptionally well and you'd hope this would book him a spot for a few tests to come. Hayden's come out and proven me wrong again as well so it's looking promising at the moment with Gilchrist still to come.

Symonds has taken his chance andf has booked a spot for a few more tests.

The selectors want to play an all-rounder in many ways he is a better bet than Watson becasue he has proved at both shield annd one-day level he is a better bat than watson and his bowling is more than usefull for a second change bowler 130 km/h moves it around and can bowl spin when required.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

A great knock. So important in so many ways, both team wise and career wise. You could see how hard it was in the period before lunch. Could be a turning point. Obviously has picked himself for the SCG Test and would have to be considered first option for the number 6 spot when Australia eventually play their next Test in November.

Not to mention the 30-40 runs he saves in the field each match. I always had faith in Symonds and am thrilled he has finally proven he is good enough. Plus I heard a whisper that had Symonds failed in this match the selectors may have gone the option of a "spinner-allrounder". That means they were seriously considering White from Victoria. God forbid.

Christ, they really must be obsessed with having an all rounder in the team.
What's the point of having an allrounder in the team though if he's only going to average 25 with the bat and 40 with the ball.

Dosent matter if we pick the 5th bowling allrounder now because Australia
is simply the best team by a minute.
But we will need it after this series
Thats when you need the number 6 to ave 25 with bat 40 with ball
He saves plenty in the field

Cast your eye to the future , Simmo is the ideal player in the subcontinent
as a spinner, greatest fielder in the galaxy, and to hit sixes on the postage
stamp arenas, and will be needed there because Ponting usually FAILS there

AH/SYD-DOG and I have always maintained faith in Simmo

And I know you want more....

Symonds holds a record made in 1995
Playing for Gloustershire v Glamorgan
Symonds hit the most amount of sixes in a first class game
Symonds hit 16 sixes

He is the chosen one.

CHAMP 154*
HAYDEN 153
LANGER 27

Only 3 batsman this test have passed 50.
Should have been 2 but umpires wont give LBW decisions against the 2nd highest
scorer to date in this game.

BTW Mal, that wasn't a crack at Symonds (even though I know his averages probably ATM fall into the category), it's just that all these fringe all rounders you here being talked up should be able to hold a spot in the side based on their batting or bowling alone, not just because they can do a bit of both.

If not, he'll never get one.
That was a hell of a knock today, he showed that he does have some restraint and can see of some bloody good bowling before cutting loose.
