imo all the juniors will end up with SFL but it will take a few years..and as esteban says they are 2 seperate groups the seniors and juniors..but as you say cyclops if SFL has all the lower grades covered then perhaps they should all be going over..i am sure they dont want to alienate there juniors and juniors parents and will do it softly softly

This is a fair point Zedman it will take some education, at the minute the juniors are in a comp where there furthest trip would be a 10 minute drive the parents will need to be swung around using the strong points of the SFL and why they should move.

Hi all first post so I would like to start with a reason why I believe the twisties would vote no for EFC coming in as it is another club that is close by which means more competition for attracting players, especially kids. As i believe the Park's are trying to establish some sort of juniors over the coming years and the last thing they want is more competition. As for efc not bringing all juniors for the 1st few years thats ok as the sfl allows teams already to get away without full juniors. The point about educating the parents is a valid 1 as I know someone whos kid plays there and his concern along with others was the travel. The only thing is I hopethe sfl has had a look at their plan on how they are going to do it in the years to come.
As for the talk about the 2 divs its not possible to create with a fair and comp building sitiation. It has been said that the top 8 in div 1 and the bottom 7 in div 2 but that means that clubs that fill full juniors will have them playing away from the seniors so what is that achieve? All you would do is set back the clubs that have worked hard to strive for success by building junior numbers and a stronger club. The only answer is that the sfl gives the clubs 3 years to buil juniors or you will be playing in div 2. Harsh I know but you watch the clubs that don't have full juniors do the requied work to get them. Also I think the sfl needs to have an action plan in place for these clubs to achieve it. It seems to me that everyone wants to have a great league but they are all working against each other. A strong comp will only happen if everyony wants the same direction and are willing assist in doing so.

Any reasons offered for their negative votes?
NO
The twisties negatory is perhaps the most interesting. I can think of far more pro's (travel, hometown derby, higher % of city clubs voting at SFL exec committee, may improve attractiveness of league to other city clubs) than con's(possible increased competition between juniors - although I'm not sure how).
I caught up with a couple of Morphy Park people and asked them about their vote. They are not against Edwardstown coming in just they way in which it is being done. There is no timeline re bringing the juniors across, if ever for the Sunday minis as the EFC president was quite dismissive about this comp as being only a "kick and catch". How long will EFC stay in the SFL? Was there any stipulation they have to be in the league for any minimum number of years. To me it sounds like they are only having a peek by not committing any more than the A/B/U18 and if it doesn't suit them or they don't like being in the SFL then they will head back to the Amatuers.

I think this move still has to be ratified by the SANFL Affiliated Leagues yet so it's not a "fait accompli" at this point

I still maintain that if EFC were to go to the SFL in 09 everything will have to run smoothly in order to be accomplished given they have such little time. If the most minor hiccup occurs in this proccess it will throw the whole plan off track. Realistically they have 12-14 weeks to get their ass in to gear because of the leagues doing schedules, fees ect. I beleive it will happen but if they rush things too soon that can not be for the better of the club surely, maybe 2010 is a better option so then the SAAFL and SFL can properly manage the situation so it has the best outcome for all parties involved........

Edwardstown will make the finals in their first year easy. In 18 rounds you need to win a minimum of 8 possibly 9 games to make the top 8 of 15 teams. Being the 'new kid on the block' and the SFL wanting to showcase the benefits they will play each bottom team twice eg

Hackham, Lonsdale, Aldinga for 6 wins.
Then they will need to beat Noarlunga, Flaggies, Christies or marion for 2 or 3 wins and they're in.

SFL is happy and can big note the success to lure more teams and EFC are vindicated in their move. The fact they are a current Div 2 amateur team they should realistically cream all the above and maybe a few higher teams.

So you are inferring the SFL will manipulate it to make Edwardstown look good, is that correct?

No, just the predictability of the league. Unless they treat them like a top four team and play the top teams twice.

Edwardestown's 2008 team would have made the GF in the SFL.

No need for a favourable draw then. I believe each club is ranked based on all teams results so less sides lower ranking. Only bringing A,B and 18,s should help them with easier draw after next season.
