"Telstra Sex Romp Affair"

Postby Cambridge Clarrie » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:18 pm

Has anyone seen the photo of the young lady involved in this 'incident'

Quite tidy...

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,22258265-910,00.html

In all honesty though, how this is newsworthy I don't know... It was a privately rented room and was outside of work hours. Our media feel quite content ruining peoples lives at will.

Of course it's newsworthy.

She's a female, in the courts, appealing against her sacking by one of the biggest corporations in the country (who I would consider she blames on ruining her life, and not the media).

500 people killed in Iraq bombing.

500 people killed in Peru earthquake.

I guess the old adage is true; sex sells...

Location, location, location.

And yes, sex sells. Don't be naive and pretends it doesn't.

Thanks Smac - words/out/mouth.

Maybe CC was just interested in the industrial relations aspect of it (hot topic right now), but then again, he did mention the girl was a hottie.

Hey, I read the article & thought she was a hottie...

The point I was making is what good does it do to have her photo blasted all over the print and web pages?

The story itself was probably worthy of a page 25 'in brief', but surely nothing more...

(I also appreciate the irony of my posting of this complaint and URL meaning more people will see this young girl!)

I think that the point you've made in the first sentence of your quote is also why this story would be of interest to many people. She got sacked because of something that happened in her own time, albeit after a work function.

Pretty screwy reason to lose your job and I'm sure most would agree. Hence most would be interested to hear about the case and whether the same could happen to them.

Again, it was Telstra that could be perceived to have ruined her life. Not the salacious media.

Public interest story perhaps? If you see her out at a bar, half a chance she's up for it*?

I'd argue that the fact Telstra sacked her wouldn't have really ruined her life. The fact that her picture has been put all over the country would have a greater impact on her ability to get work.

What's the bet she ends up with a spread in ZOO Weekly! :)

Do agree Telstra were in the wrong. However I think you're being naive if you think that the papers have run the story based on its industrial relations aspect.

And regarding your comment about sex sells...I work in advertising and understand that there is not more true a statement!

I never said the industrial relations issue was the entire basis for their story (but it certainly makes it public interest). As for sex selling, we're on the same page.

Hmm.. it is in the eye of the beholder. Going by that photo she is not what I would have worked hard for in my youth - presentation a bit rough round the edges - but as one gets older I guess one can't be as choosy.....
