* Action Supermarkets (Queensland, Northern NSW, Western Australia only)
49 stores sold to and rebranded as Woolworths, remaining stores rebranded as IGA in 2006.

There was at least one Action supermarket in SA it took over from the Tom The Cheap in the strip mall next to the Hampstead Hotel (in 77 or 78). The same strip mall had one of the last Fisherman's Baskets in SA as well.

David Weeks is behind the now 11-strong Coco’s Discount Food business based in south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales,
Coco’s, is a tiny independent grocery chain, and is cashing in on Coles’ desertion of the Bi-Lo niche.

Coco’s development manager Greg Pearse (DW's right hand man from the old bilo days of S.A.) told the paper that with the demise of Bi-Lo “we definitely see room for another discounter”.

“There are plans to expand the number of stores,” he told The Financial Review.

There are several rumours doing the Rounds that ALDI Supermarkets are comming to SA in the near future and may be opening in Mt Gambier serviced from the Vic warehouse. ALDI would definatley give Coles - Woolworths a run for their money!

The other rumour that I have heard is that Franklins are going to a system similar to IGA in that the stores will be offered as franchised stores to individual owners rather than being one great conglomerate, so we will see what happens I suppose!

I do remember "The Big Heart" at Christies Downs on Elizabeth Rd, that takes me back a few years though!

The other interesting one is that the KMart at Ingle Farm was the first KMart in S.A and it was started in the late 1960's which suggests they have been around for a while too!
