At one stage when trolls were running rampant I think we might have made this a site which you could only read by being registered which would explain a lot of them.
The other issue is people aren't automatically registered as we manually activate each individual person (by choice as a way to keep some ratbats/trolls/spammers) out, so a lot might register with the intent of immediately posting but aren't given that chance, which we think is a good thing on the whole.
I think you'll find a lot registered, like me, during the great server crash when you had to restrict the numbers viewing the site.
