Tasmania will no doubt try him as a keeperbatsman one day in the
pura/cup team BUT right move[he keeps only in o/d games]
gilCHRIST will retire soon
Haddin will be the number one gloveman
Paine has the opportunity to be the reserve keeper and tour.
Opening and Keeping is too hard in my opinion so he would need
to bat about 6 or 7....not sure about that.
On the other hand
Hayden + Langer will retire soon
Australia will need 2 openers...Jaques + Painegreat opportunity
especially since Elliott is struggling for runs.
HE PROBABLY HAS MORE CHANCE AS AN OPENER IN MY OPINION.
He has made a 200 at 22years of age as a opening batsman and averages
close to 60 this year, opening/keeping will probably disintigrate that average.
This star performer s a REB proterge, I wonder what REB thinks

They kept to an over rate of 12 per hour and their bowlers remained fresh. Had the West Indies attack have played in the current environment, they wouldn't be as effective because they would need to bowl a 5th or 6th bowler more often to get their over rate up.
The West Indies were also fortunate everyone tried to fight fire with fire, and their batsmen never have to face quality leg spin bowling. Facing quick bowling suited their batsmen.
I guess we'll never know because you cannot compare players of different eras, but a 25 year old Shane Warne with that lethal flipper would have sliced up their batting line up. It would be an interesting match for certain.

I don't think the difference between the circa-2001 test side and the current test side is apparent enough to say that one would win and the other struggle. I think that the 2001 & 2006 bowlers would restrict them more, and our the attacking batsmen would go after the Windies sides more earlier on.
I would expect that more of the short pitched stuff the Windies frequently served up would have gone to the fence more often (courtesy of Hayden, Langer, Ponting & Gilchrist) and that their batsmen would have been bamboozled by Warne.

I would have liked Warnie to stay around for another 2 years, and the selectors play D Cullen with Warne as much as possible. By this time D Cullen would know what test cricket is about, and C Bailey would be at the right age and first-class experience to step into Warnie's gap.
Macgill is a top bowler, but the selectors have to go for Cullen now. It is the ideal time because the Aussies are still scoring mountains of runs, so he would be bowling in a very different environment with runs on the board, than at the moment with SA's batting being woeful.
I'm not totally convinced about Jacques technique either. Rogers, Marsh and North are all better options.
