Automatic Coffee Machine

Postby The Ash Man » Thu Jun 10, 2010 8:11 pm

Hi all

I'm in the market for a fully automatic coffee machine

Looking to spend under $1000

I waste so much on cafe coffee I reckon I can make the money back soon enough!

Wondering if anyone knows of good machines and places to buy them.

Good Guys, Radio Rentals, etc have very little choice

Cheers

Part of what you pay for at a coffee shop is the time spent cleaning - you should clean it if the next cup is more than an hour or two after the last, meaning you could be cleaning a coffee machine twice a day (morning cup, clean it out, go to work, come home for a cup and clean it out again). Sounds easier to go to the shop for a cup I reckon!

But look for appliance importers, they sell the good ones.

i'm not a massive coffee drinker, mainly because i'm a lazy piece of carp.

but i would love to have one of the big machines that i see in a heap of pubs, usually near the pokie room. ones that at the touch of a button, do lattes, mochas, black, whites, whatever! would be awesome fo rin the morning!

If you're anywhere near the city, Harvey Norman had a "coffee expo" marquee set up in rundle mall earlier in the week. Not sure if it's still there. Had a heap of coffee machines in there on sale.

I usually use a small electric grinder and a filter paper, although I do have a La San Marco machine I picked up via a friend in the trade some years ago.
You need to grind your coffee separately for it, but that leaves less machine cleaning to do.

This model has been known to make a reasonable cup of coffee on demand. Unfortunately it doesn't come cheap, and it requires an inordinate amount of maintenance.

Yes, unfortunately mine died in late 2008 and I haven't found a satisfactory replacement, especially with regard to that function.
All the new models I've met I've concluded are best kept in their own homes, where they are self maintaining and cost free, apart from small contributions when visiting.
[I did invest a small bottle of Arpege in one recently.]
