If I missed it I am sorry, but I did not see any results of the Mortlock Shield or Magpies Cup in either Sunday Mail or both Monday and Tuesday Advertisers. Not good enough. The West Coast has a tremendous amount of not only players, but others who have lived and/or worked here, who are veery keen to see the results in these papers. As it is all they can see amongst other rivetting news is the results of the Lithuanian Soccer league matches and the Petanque played at god knows where.
MP - please organise that this does not happen again. It's costing me a fortune in phone calls and text messages.

Marble Park - Any truth to the rumour that the PLFL have asked to see W Roderick's birth certificate?

There was a lot to like about the PL team which went about it's way in clinical fashion and secured the Shield as it should have (which is not a brag just fact). I would think you could put a tick against just about every player and it would take too long to go thru all the good efforts so I will mention the ones I was perhaps only a little disappointed in first. Campbell, JCS, Dunn, Sinclair, Castley, Miller, Stoetzer, Williams. Thought they were all below their best - OK but below their best. Over the course of the 2 days, I was very happy with Goodwin, White**, Owen, Jericho**, Kelsh, King, Reincke, Parker, Hunt, Kemp **.

no truth. issue is finished.

who were they and can u tell me who got in from e.e?

can't remember them all; ky miller, hyphen, jericho, semmler, stoetzer, kemp, keatley, kelsh, kayser, matty parker, gurtin, goody, sinclair, campbell, Hunt, white, i'm pretty sure on, there will be a full list in thursday's paper.

Steigs- No excuse for the Magpies Cup not to be in, I made sure all the info went off. Obviosuly wouldn't be in the Mail, but it should've been in Monday's 'Tiser.

I sent a post thru earlier must have punched the wrong button !!
magpie cup was great, some fantastic talent out there !
Roderick, Paech, Haarsma,Lienert all great footballers.
DJD is Lochie playing any senior games?
My understanding (correct me if I am wrong) is that KI and Fw
both receive 30% of the gate takings for Mortlock to help
offset costs.
Personally I think Lincoln will only get stronger as the country leagues find it harder

There were a few people surprised that Sinclair made the Mortlock side (not me personally), and quite a few more that he made the EP training squad...
But the guys that pick these sides know a heck of a lot more than me...

if they are good enough they are good enough
And I spoke to god knows how many people over the weekend and there was not one who disagreed that Lincoln should have 2 sides. Perhaps I spoke to the wrong people BTB.

On the same point I know of some people who did not attend on the weekend at all cos Lincoln only had one and the outcome was obvious to them before it started. Other comments like "if Lincoln continue to have one, the Mortlock will have a limited future" were frequent. Our increasing population, the influx of players from other leagues (the opposite in the other leagues)are points to consider for our future makeup.

With the same committed effort as shown this year, I cannot see Port Lincoln losing in the forseeable future at least, with only one side. A one sided comp is not a good comp.

Glyn Owen's acceptance speech basically advocated for a second side...

Seeing as though he would presumably coach Lincoln Districts, and they only had 5 representatives in the 2010 Lincoln side, he's advocating that he doesn't want to caoch the winning side in 2011.

If he's having to say that, then it's pretty straight forward.

He also said something to me saturday night along the lines of "I didn't want to do that to Far West," gave me the impression that Lincoln could do, and are doing, whatever they want to on the field...

I think we should keep one side, and take the accolades while we can, because one day we won't be so good...

You have to remember most teams in Mid West and Far West etc are only getting worse and worse as more and more people leave the area or stop playing footy whereas Port Lincoln is growing. Surely it would make more sense to make it two teams now and just leave it that way. Sounds more logical then waiting till (if and when that happens) Pt Lincoln won't be so good. Who will be the one to decide if Pt Lincoln is no good, one bad year or may be four. Who knows? Just my opinion!

We all new the result before it started and this is no good for a Mortlock Shield.
2 sides for Port Lincoln is a must and soon.

The PLFL will not get stronger.
It will not get stronger because it seriously lacks credibility while the MPFC remain in the league. Players and supporters are sick of the double standards and will leave the league to go north or not play at all. The PLFL and commission need to get off their ars*s and take some action for once and make the hard decisions for the betterment of the game here.

For starters ban Miller and Dudley for the rest of the year, and threaten MPFC with expulsion for 2011 unless basic requirements/behavioural standards are met.

Secondly the supposed 'jewel in the crown' of the great Mortlock shield is Centenary oval. What has allowed to happen to that facility over many years is a disgrace. The PLFL does not deserve to host the carnival when it supplies a venue such as that. I am a huge fan of centenary oval and loved playing on it, but facilities for spectators and the changerooms etc for players are a joke.

If KI decide they cant/dont want to play in the future then I think is the time to split
port lincoln back into two. In ten years time who knows, maybe Far West will be full of miners
and Eastern Eyre might have a super port ,it is something that will need to be adjusted as conditions change

also, in ten years time, our "gun" crew of under 25's will be in their early to mid 30's, and not as dominant as they are now.

Looking at Lincoln City in the under 15 game, there's not much to look forward to, and Lincoln Districts team's under 13's are not looking all that flash...

We are in an awesome position at the moment, but it isn't going to continue for infinity.

GO is the king of the big comments. Pretty certain when the proposal to field one side was mooted he stated he wouldn't want anything to do with it....
Pinch of salt stuff imho.

I am sure that the two team party would have had a pretty good hearing over the weekend, especially after the magnitude of the victory.
To quote the famous Linda Lovelace, "one swallow doesn't make make a summer". PLFL (esp LC) has endured enough ridicule over the past 10 years to resist change so quickly.
If we are having this same conversation in a couple of years time then maybe it's time to get serious.
I think if Mortlock Shield has shown us anything over the years, it is "what comes around goes around".
