Gillard for PM?

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Is Cameron Ling's sister the new PM - rise of the ranga. I was concerned when the little fella came out with a tinge of red. Not any more son you can be an AFL star or even Prime Minister !

I know when we cast our vote we are voting for the political party and not the person who happens to be the leader at that point in time,but.....in all honesty there is no way you can have any faith in any of the dodgy lying bastards and it is for many Australians a popularity contest and at the last Federal Election I voted to see Kevin Rudd become our Prime Minister, not Julia Gillard.

Therefore, I'm not happy with the decision.

And when the Libs warned that voting for Kev07 would get you Julia the Labor party swore it wouldn't happen to stop the voters being scared off by the prospect!

But really, you voted for Rudd/Labor because you didn't want to vote for Howard/Coalition? That's what it came down to for many voters. I think that era of neo-con ugliness won't be forgotten too quickly, particularly with Abbott at the helm of the opposition.

What's happened today is that the unions have simply claimed back what they see as their right. This move will only embolden them further.

And they will thus scare the voters into the arms of Tony Abbott, which I am not entirely thrilled about either.

Wake up Booney - that's always been the case with Labor. I noticed that Gillard's speech carefully crafted in a lot of heed to the unions, to workers, and the old scare campaign of Work Choices is being rolled out again. Gillard wants the miner's to cut their mining ads in a show of good faith. I bet that Labor dont cut any pre-election ads that refer to work choices.

Of course not. If they want to win the election they should ram that point home.

Just watched Question Time and must say I thought the new PM handled herself extremely well.
Dropped a couple of very good "one liners" and sat Ms Bishop back on her ar$e. She won't take any crap from Abbott either based on what she put forward. And Joe Hockey, a huge piece of lard taking up 2 seats on the front bench.

Just goes to show just how much of an influence the mining sector has on politics behind closed doors.

I reckon alot of people in high profile positions were going to lose money out their pockets.

Ruddy wasn't doing that badly seeing we where in a global financial crisis.

Time will tell, and Gillard has some work ahead of her as the GFC hasn't fully arrived yet, but not overly impressed with where my vote in 2007 has ended up.

Yeah, but there's a double standard going on. Cake and eat it too stuff.....
Mining Ads are a scare campaign but work choices isn't? Work Choices was a major reason for Labor getting in last time, and it was not even disguised as being anything but a scare campaign.

I'd rather the Unions than Workchoices (which Abbott will reintroduce under a different name if heaven forbid the coalition wins the next election).

Why should they? Abbott has put workchoices, whatever name he wants to call it, firmly back on the agenda.

Quick history lesson Booney. The labor party was formed by workers and their union(AWU), as part of the shearer's strike in 1891(i think) to give the working class a political voice.

So the unions have always and will always have a big influence on how the labor party runs and in turn run the country from time to time :D .
