REDLEG REVIEW

SCOTT BASSETT
-------------------

Scotts troublesome knee may force the talented Norwood defender into retirement.
He has a had a marvellous career with Norwood and was instumental in
the clubs 1997 premiership playing up forward.
Bassett represented Port Power and Western Bulldogs in the AFL.
Maybe it was his stint at Western Bulldogs which precipitated his knee problems
Bassett I believe has been appointed to the coaching panel at Norwood in 2007.

BRADLEY VASSAL
--------------------

A delightful young man maybe out of favour in redlegland.
Despite a brilliant performance in the seconds Prelim final[he stood Shattock ??] he
has not impressed on the coach enough to be guarenteed a senior spot in 2007 ??
Brad is an in and under type and still a good chance at senior level.
2 other SANFL clubs are interested and a couple of WA clubs are as well.
The 2 SANFL clubs both played finals in 2006.
Im not sure but did Brad win the reserves best and fairest the last 2 years ???

ROBBIE DEJONG
---------------------

I thought after half a dozen games in 2006 that he was star material.
By the end of the season he was playing reserves footy.
The mail I had was he did not do a proper preseason, so after his good
start I thought with extra fitness he would dominate, but what happened ?
From WA he was recommended to the club by former champion Johnny
Two Eight Wynne.
One unsubstantiated rumour I heard was that Robbie enjoys his booze too much ?

Vass was a supporters favourite but not in favour with the selection panel for whatever reason. I think he won the 2006 reserves B & F but Luke Nitschke won the year before.

Bass is a wait and see. If he plays he won't be available until mid season which is why he would be helping out with the coaching as he did last year. Has been doing rehab hoping to play but time will tell. Best of luck to him as we need him.

It could be argued:

Karma got to Hayden Skipworth after his gutless "tackle" of a defenceless Matt Campbell......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The same McKenzie who was so badly hurt his own club sent him straight back out within a few minutes where a lot worse could have happend during play. You got the win but the incident raised a bigger issue for the football community and the safety of players.

Can't argue with that Sarge, no Norwood fan was impressed with that behaviour!

It's a shame he has brain fades because the boy has legitimate football talent, but any repeats of that performance this year and he can move on imho.

Yes, agreed. No excuse for thug behaviour, and it always amazes me that supporters tend to defend their own players for similar acts rather than condemn them.

Interestingly IIRC it was the Norwood trainers who looked after the Westies lad after that incident. As I am led to believe, the Norwood players were none too impressed with De Jongh's actions either. Also, after he was suspended he was eligible to come back in to the side for the Reserves GF but was overlooked at the selection table.

Actions were not condoned. No publicity for it but De Jongh was never left wondering how the club felt about it. Compare that to Cousins, Gardiner, Krakouer (all re off field behaviour) and even the reserve keeper at Adel United who stuck the boot out against Melbourne. Not being picked for a GF must have really hurt the lad and hopefully next year he will be a better person and a better player for his erronous ways.

And re McKenzie - couldn't agree more CA. The guy was back on the field in a jiffy, after the game was held up for 5 minutes for the stretcher when Nwd had the run on with momentum. If he was fit to play so quickly the stretcher couldn't have been necessary. If the stretcher was necessary even as a precaution, fancy sending him back out so quickly. The Eagle's coach is a firefighter in Communications and he wouldn't have done the same to someone carried out of a burning building and parked in the back of an ambulance so why is the footy field any different?

it was just a ploy to slow down the game and stop norwoods run, they probably knew he wasnt that hurt, if at all. Just like time wasting in cricket.

Uh, why are you including Robert Bajic with those AFL players?! The reason he was playing (despite originally being reserve keeper), is because John Kosmina dropped Daniel Beltrame for an entire freaking year as punishment for a red card offence last season. Kosmina has now dropped Bajic from the starting line up for his on field offence, despite having served his suspension.

Gutless prick is all you have to say about that gutless prick, unless you were actually next to the gutless prick, then you'd be a gutless prick!

Having said that i let Robbie know back at the club a few weeks after the incident exactly what most Norwood supporters who saw it were thinking, not acceptable in a Norwood guernsey! He wasn't too happy to hear it but said he regretted it, a brain fade at the time.

He seems to have mellowed down and hope to see him take the SANFL apart in 2007.
