LIFE AFTER DEATH ?

LIFE AFTER DEATH ?

Postby mal » Sun Dec 31, 2006 1:09 pm

Its a question that nobody confidently knows.
Its been a sad 2006, Ive lost 3 mates this year Sam, Kev, Bob
They were aged 35/50/60 years old, and I miss them heeps.

My first introduction to death was way back in 1963 in grade 1 when a
kid called Don accidently hung himself at home, the teacher briefed
us about it.
The last was my 60 year old buddy Bob who died after a long fight
with lung cancer in 2006.

Thats the problem at my age people you know closely start dying

The question is what happens to us when we die ?

Do we re-incarnate ?
Do we cease to exist?
Do we....

I have no answers but I have a suspicion that termination is temporary.

Jeez, Grade 1 is a bit young for autoerotic asphyxiation...

As for yer question (what happens after?): Who cares. Why waste this life worrying about what happens next?

Where there is a design there is a designer, so I agree that it termination is likely to be temporary as well!

When I first started my Apprenticeship an older chap at the firm died of Lung Cancer, that was hard to take, it is always the nice people that it seems to happen to. :(

Nothing after death, no factual proof to show otherwise.
But Im with Pseudo, don't worry about it.
Unless there was a Prospect Oval in heaven with North playing it'd be a waste of time anyway! ;)

I'm with you, but substitute Woodville for Prospect/North.

If you read the Bible then it should hopefully become clear that there is life after death.

I can see why you feel that way Wedgie, the Bible is one of those books that you can start at in several places, yet most people start at the front page like any other book and it can become a little difficult to get a handle on where things are going! One reccomendation that I was given from a chap who was in the Gideons is to start of reading the book of John in the New Testament as it sets it out, then go from there.

I have belonged to the Salvation Army since I was 15 and tend to be fairly enthusiastic about it at times, I grew up in that environment and as a result knew alot of people who wore the label of Christian yet were quite genuine which I find encouraging.

I read a book recently which I found really interesting, which might be helpful, it is called "The Case for Christ" and it is written by Lee Strobel. It focuses on what evidence there is that he existed and if there is proof for the rising from the dead or not. It is quite compelling and well written and worth a look.

I am not sure how many Christian players there are in the SANFL at present, I think Michael Aish was quite well known in his day, I did see that Life FM are doing the SANFL games at present, so I am not sure if the players that are involved in the broadcasting of that are into it or not?

Mr MK is proof that there is life after death, following the amount of alcohol he drank NYE. He came back to life around 5-30pm yesterday evening.

I have read a few books that give the reincarnation theory quite a boost. One was "The Other Side" by Sylvia Brown, a well known psychic that sometimes donates her time to help police solve crimes. The foreword was written by a doctor who has done extensive research with patients that were revived after being clinically dead on the operating table, in almost every case the patients told stories containing identical elements of a journey to the world of spirits. The author claims to have heard this story from departed souls also, and goes on say that spirits actually have the choice to return to this Earth.
Worth a read if you are asking questions about what happens when we pass on.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Also, one of the best reads.

People are free to believe what they like - if it makes them happier being alive then so be it.

As for me, when I die - that's it. I'm dead and there's nothing more. No afterlife, no heaven, no hell.

Just dirt.

Enjoy yourself, and leave a legacy.

Edit - Actually, I'll change that. The afterlife is what you leave behind... your legacy, and memory. That's what keeps you alive.

I'm an archaeologist by profession and have yet to see one single piece of contemporary evidence that proves he existed. Its a growing belief amonst scholars that his existence was a myth. See a book called "The Jesus Mysteries" by Freke and Gandy.

I'd also recommend two other books;

The God Delusion by Dawkins

Telling Lies for God by Ian Plimer.

Have to ask; do you accept the evolutionary origin of the human species? Or are you a creationist?

Sorry to hear of your losses Mal ... Unfortunately I think the question you've posed is one that you can only answer for yourself, for as Diss says, everyone will have a different opinion/belief on the matter.

Hi Mal

Postby Lunchcutter » Thu Jan 04, 2007 12:39 pm

I too, am sorry for your losses mal... let's hope 2007 proves a more happy year for you. It is my pesonal belief that there is an afterlife - in my 38 years in this life I have experienced some pretty freaky/unexplainable things that I believe are the only proof I need (visions, feelings etc), that and of course having a strong belief system (whatever that may be) makes our life on earth much more bearable (im not overly religious but have always believed in a higher power and this was re-inforced to me when my mother clinically died on the operating table sometime ago and believes she was floating above herself on the way (to somehwere) looking down on herself and the team of doctors she was then snapped back after resuss... of course all of this is only my personal beliefs and I am respectful that others have their own beliefs/opinions which is understandable.... I do however find trusting in something rather comforting - (this is reinforced by the amount of people that find religion etc after near death experiences) just my thoughts mal  keep smiling
RIP my DH 1964 - 2009 - You were one of the best and I miss you
