Predictions for the ladder in 06??

All discussions to do with the SANFL

torrens were only half a team between 64 an 91 because other clubs voted to bring woodville in and cut them in half no wonder they struggled thats why i dont count any premership or medal between those years they mean nothing . Other clubs should be cut in half for 27years and see how they go

Torrens won four premierships - 1924, 1933, 1945 and 1953.

(and none after 1964, funny that)

2006 predictions

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sun Jan 01, 2006 7:30 pm

1. EAGLES (it must be our year)
2. NORTH (recruited well but can they perform under pressure in september)
3. PORT ( no movement expected 2 good pick ups but loss of T.Brown will hurt)
4. CENTRALS (Huge losses, naturally expect slide, still good enough for top5)
5. SOUTH (finally the breakthrough year)
6. NORWOOD (further improvement needed before goal of top5 is reached)
7. STURT (big slide down expected after big losses)
8. GLENELG (always look like improving but don't deliver often enough tp make top5)
9. WEST (nothing to say except wooden spoon)

Spot on p/rooster. I am sure that Elliott and co @ the roosters will sack Jars now they know no one @ henley rates him!! Also what is a token premiership? In my book any flag port win will do me.

We haven't lost heaps, Sudjai Cook played about 4-5 games and was nothing to get excited about losing. Culpitt dispite getting plenty of the ball imho is over rated and doesn't use the ball well and his antics are known by the whole league now. Neely is a loss but he really didn't play that well at all in 05. Schuback played 1-2 good games for us thats all, apart from that who do you think we will miss in 06?? Apparently we have 2-3 good players which are nearly done deals, Ben Moore will play a full season, Sherwood will hopefully get through the season injury free, a lot of juniors from the reserves and 19's will be better this year, new coach, new board, lots of new faces around, etc. We have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about 06 i think we will be better but how much is anyones guess, except yours cockboy. :P

Every player that leaves Glenelg and goes somewhere else is crap or over rated. But of cousre only good players head to the bay. Does this mean that the bays turn players into over rated hacks....

Just a little humor here boys

Hmm, some latent jealousy from the 80's and very early 90s is coming through me thinks,

Obviously some people sick of us seeing us beat the crap out of them for 20 years (Port and Norwood excepted) have taken great delight in our performance in the past ten yerears particularly the last five.....

Keep it up boys (and girls), we have shown that we are prepared to wait for flags, 1934 to 1973, so we are happy to wait at least 35 years like the current clubs that finally thinks it is shit hot.

Having said that Good Luck to the Poms for finally getting it all together and creating a winning culture at Centrelink Stadium

Funny how teams finish above us show still get worse crowd figures than us - demonstrates to a point that we have fans that are prepared to stick to with the club that is, in my humble opinion, the best footy club in Australia!!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I went back to my Sportsbeat article of Rd 1 2005 to see how my predictions panned out

9th - Norwood (6th) - can't find anyone to replace the legs in the Cellars

8th - South - (7th) been burnt too many times before

7th - Glenelg - (8th) another small step forward

6th - West - (9th) could win more games then 2004 but still miss finals

5th - North (4th) Jars will find second year at the helm at lot tougher

4th - Sturt (5th) - around the mark but not totally convincing

3rd - Port (3rd) - the big improver with an easier schedule than 2004

2nd - Eagles (2nd) - still look the most likely challengers to Central

1st - Central (1st) - after last years final who else

As for 2006 its still a bit early but tradition says one team falls out of the top five and a new one comes in.

I think Sturt may fall out and Norwood will replace them

I am very tempted to tip South to finish bottom so I won't overestimate them like I usually do

One thing to note Port have a much tougher schedule in 2006 with 3 matches against Central, Eagles and North so if they do finish top they will have earned it.

The only thing it demonstrates is that you come behind South and West.

PS Some of Glenelgs crowds in recent years have been absolutely diabolical IMHO and I've been to quite a few Bays games. If it wasn't for the Snouts at a few games (especially Prospect and Alberton) they would have had no supporters. In the last two years only South and West have averaged less than Glenelg, something hardly to brag about especially considering the Bays used to be one of the best supported teams in the comp. I wouldn't describe that as having fans sticking with the club.
