West and Port over Salary Cap

Postby sturtpeter » Tue Jan 02, 2007 10:50 am

It does make one curious, however, how one player at Westies can allegedly be receiving 25% of the Cap.

Doesn't take Rocket Science to work out how much the majority are allegedly receiving.

Similar story at Port with another quality player.

Either stay within the Cap or lose your Points.

I wrote that email and it was an attempt to justify the miserly fines handed out in the past.

I say strip the offending Clubs of all their Premiership points. Fining them is like saying to a felon, don't be a bad person or next time you'll face tougher consequences.

AHHHHH HAH!!!...proof...Bone DID NOT say it, he was reading an email....apology accepted Wedgie

Are you bones twin brother, or did they give mcdermott half of your bain

25% of the cap to one player (Walsh / Cupido) i dont think so

Walsh is an assistant coach a bit like a ben hart, cupido is on a very low salary compared to souths.... then again sturts salary cap may be $160K as thats all they can afford after paying way over the odds for the castle plaza. Then in your case you may be right about it being 25% of 160K but other clubs do work to the approx 340K salary cap except souths who have added 10% for GST.

Again a rerun of the great salary cap debate ---- sad thing is nobody is real sure of what the rules are, kinda spoils the debate ---- ask SANFL and they say speak to your club as they have a copy ---- speak to club and they have a hard copy that Members can read on site (no copies).

Would be nice if someone at the SANFL acted a bit proactive and posted a PDF copy on thier website for information of general suppoerters.

Has any poster a PDF/word or other electronic formate copy of the SANFL salary cap rule or know where they are available on net - please PM me if you have.

Sure it isnt sour grapes Sturt hasn't recruited any big names and these clubs have ???

For those unaware the topic was raised in jest to point out how ridiculous it is that some people make comment about things they don't know anything about..
And Dutchy, SP pleaded guilty to the email, he didn't say anything about being the sole person (or only person) to say West or Port were over the salary cap. Looking at your observation skills I think we can safely say I must have been closer to the mark! ;)
I'd give Bone McDermott and Wildy about as much creedence as someone from Latvia when it came to reporting on the SANFL but as mentioned before, full marks to them at least they do mention the SANFL a bit more than Dumb and Dumber.

Firstly I not accusing West of being over the cap in this post, but seriously Dash, do you think we honestly believe that Cupidoll (a "professional" footballer - in monetary terms) will leave a team that made the finals to be with the wooden spooners to be on a "very low salary" compared to what he was at South????

The salary component may be low but the pies component could be a different......

the words, "playing for the guernsey" are totally foreign to the likes of Cupido.....

Sturt said a player is on 25% of the salary cap, thats 85-90K, do you think any man is being paid that?????, Cupido was on approx 60K at souths plus unlimited pies, at westies he is no where near that. Playing for the jumper was never said but the GUY (CUPIDO) is busting his arse on the track and as a club you can not ask more than that, on Jan 8th will see if he broke the Balfours record at Xmas or he has done the right thing.

As a club we have to give he a fair go and on the track he hasnt missed a neat and has been super impressive

Not suggesting he was getting $85-90 K, or that he was getting what he got at South, or that he is earning more than someone at my club  , or that he was not putting in at westies.

Merely asking the question if your term "very low" is an appropriate descriptor of what his salary at westies is going to be compared to what as you point out was his alledged payment at South.....

As I said players like Cupidoll don't play for peanuts......

West and Port Over Salary Cap

Postby sturtpeter » Tue Jan 02, 2007 9:44 pm

Sensitivity is a huge problem here.

I imagine my comments, initially made on AA to stir up a bit of debate when most of us are recovering from NYE, have hit a nerve.

What goes around comes around. Enjoy your successes, because, the Mighty Double Blues are on the prowl.

Maybe not for 3 years but at least by 2009 or 2010 some of the people crowing now will be put in their places.

Happy New Year Lads!!!

Sounds like penis envy towards other financial clubs.
Why would anyone make such ridiculous claims on a forum, let alone radio???
Most of the credibilty you had, is now out the window.
