New WAFL rule for 2006

Postby Wedgie » Mon Jan 02, 2006 10:06 am

I see the WAFL have introduced a new rules that limits clubs to 6 interstate players & they have to play 3 years in WA before they are classed as a local.

I assume this is an attempt to help harnass WA talent. Probably more of an issue here as the clubs here have more money to spend and would find it easier to entice Eastern states players.

Does anyone think it would be an idea worth pursuing here?

NO.

Perhaps if you were allowed to have one interstate recruit to replace every player you had lost to interstate, but then some clubs would be entitled to a full side of recruits.

Leave it as it is, with the exodus of young talent to interstate that has been developed by SANFL clubs, they are entitled to "restock" when they lose players.

I think the solution will be to "grade" players with different values, regardless of the payment actually made.

eg, a delisted AFL player is graded at a salary of $35,000. a hundred game local player is $20,000, etc, etc.

The actual figures can be worked out by the league from the information they have.

It isn't perfect and doesn't solve all the problems, but it would be difficult to rort.

There you go again Ian, using logic in an argument. How are the supporters of certain western suburbs teams gonna understand that.

remember when the vfl/afl raped & pilliaged our comp with tas & wa etc, well all it is now is our turn to be the no1 comp outside the so called elite comp & if we have the $ go & get the players you want furthermore i dont think there should be a salary cap either if clubs have the $ buy the players to be successful & of course with the local players if they're good enough they'll get through in anycase & all kids today see the sanfl & state leagues as stepping stones to a career in the 'tv' game of ballet footy (if glenelg spent 1/2 million) more than anyone else & were sucessful i'd be happy & i'm sure its the same with each & everyone of you with your teams ie win first money in the bank 2nd

As long as they introduce an export rule too... no more than 2 players to get drafted each year, or an import for an export at worst.

Yeah i'd be for that, something that can let the club that loses the talent in the AFL or interstate in general should get the chance to gain the same number back in return.

not a fan of the rule, teams should be able to do whatever they want in the offseason, if they think getting 10 new blokes in and can do it, then thats fine...

Well if we want the sanfl to be the best league outside of the AFL then we dont need any recruit rules. Drop the cap as well if you really want to push home the advantage.

But back on topic, new rule, nope not here. Let each team go for broke or go broke in some cases.

just wondering

Postby bayman » Wed Jan 04, 2006 9:25 pm

its in the back of my mind that this salary cap was an afl directive to the sanfl, if this is right why not tell them (afl) to stick it & clubs that want to recruit heavily do so as its NO BLOODY DIFFERENT than what they (vfl/afl) did before they went broke & lets face it if they didn't go broke there would be no teams from wa, sa & qld in the vfl/afl as if it were truly national & not the vfl under another name why hasn't the victorian based teams plus south melb/sydney paid $4 million to join the 'new' comp ? sorry but this really does irk me
