Ladders after Rd 17

Postby scott » Sat Jul 17, 2010 5:53 pm

League: Centrals maintained top spot on the ladder for the 10th successive week now following their win against Norwood in the 1 v 2 battle. Glenelg seized on the Legs' loss with a solid win over Port to jump straight back into second spot. First, fourth and fifth on the table have remained exactly the same since round 10, while the Bays and Legs have tussled between second and third, with Glenelg in second spot five weeks to Norwood's three. No other ladder movements for the fourth week straight in the bottom four, however, Sturt are now only a game outside the five when some had written them off a final's spot.

Reserves: Much like the league, the reserves ladder hasn't made too many adjustments almost the whole year. Sturt may be leading the competition, and have been in first for all bar two weeks, but Port are knocking on the door in second spot with only one less win and a better percentage. Central District and South Adelaide occupy second-last and last spots as they have for the whole year, and the latter is almost a certainty for the spoon, however, the Dogs' mid-season resurgence saw them rise from a battle with the Panthers' for bottom spot only a month ago to now only prowling a game outside the five, even though they've been stagnant in eighth spot for 13 weeks.

Under 18s: Port Magpies have jumped back out to a game-and-a-half lead at the top of the table after that was reduced to one game last week, however, West Adelaide have a game in hand in second position with a winning streak of seven. The next month will be a huge test for the Bloods, and after a must-win and expected win against Centrals next week, they then face third-placed Glenelg (Rd 19), fifth-placed Sturt (Rd 20), and then the biggest test of all first-placed Port (Rd 21). The top five is set but the positions are far from it. Glenelg has dropped to their equal lowest spot of the year, not having saw as low as fourth since round one, and that was because their 53-point win over Norwood attracted the least amount of percentage out of the four sides that opened with wins.

Perhaps not much movement yet in the reserves, but with Centrals getting players back the 2s are getting stronger and could be making a serious charge up the ladder soon. 4 on the trot after looking close to gone a month ago.

Amazing that the Magpies still have the lowest average losing margin amongst the clubs. For a team sitting 8th we have been mighty competitive.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
