Great fundraising idea...

However, I'm interested in where clubs obtain their mice from and what deals are struck?

Our normal supplier of mice are unavailable to this year so any suggestions would be appreciated...

get MAL on board he will operate as the SP Bookie perhaps and to help with fundraising give a return of 1% on turnover

think it was $3.50 a mouse or something like that and we get a $1 if they come back ok.
Could be wrong something along those lines though.
We only bought 8 mice and just mix them up for all the races.

The hard thing is getting a track to use.
Someone was saying it costs about $2000 to get a professional in for the night??

we did a similar thing up at Wunkar a few years back (close to 10 tbh) except with Yabbies instead of mice.

pros of yabbies;
- slower making it easier to determine the winner
- no need for a track, just a bucket and a large circle drawn. the winner is the first from the bucket to the outer ring
- winner not only gets some coin but a feed of yabbies too

cons;
- catch the suckers first and keep them long enough for the event, when is yabbie season?!?
- during auction the smaller, weaker ones won't pull as much coin
- may not be as exciting as mice as race would generally take longer i would think

ultimately you use whatever you can get your hands on i guess...

Pretty sure that's what it cost our club.

I didn't make it last year, but just about every person in our club raved about it and is pumped for this year. It should raise a bucketload of cash and is a great all ages event.

We have our own race track so do it all our self. Means a few more ppl need to put there hand up to make it successful, but we have a good bunch of ppl to help with it so we make 100% profit on the night, except for the mice and the cost to photocopy money and the programs for the night!

We got local business and sponsors to pay for naming rights of each race, they got their name and logo in the program and it paid for the cost of the pros to run the night, and also auction off each mouse to the highest bidder... is a great night out and a good way to get the junior and senior sides of a club together for a night..

The pros we had provided:
the mice
race track
bookie
programmes
race caller
food and drink for the owner of each mouse during the race

and probably some other stuff i have forgotten

We have been having an annual mouse cup at Broadview for years, is a great nights fun for everyone, in fact have it coming up from 6.30pm on the 7th August if anyone is interested to see how it works, we raise a heap of money for Junior footy by having silent & live auctions, raffles and fun and games, cost 5 bucks a head or 20 bucks a family

programmes (pretty easy to make up)
race caller (one of the guys from the club who likes a punt)

we had each race named after a sponsor. All the mice were auctioned off before the race. the owners sit right up front and get a drink while the race is on.

The programmes for us were $10 each which got you so much mouse money to bet with aswell.
The idea of that is the person with most money wins a prize at end.

the winner of each race also got themselves a bottle of win and a heap of vouchers for various places.

these nights can be a huge success if people get around them.
