racing at vic park

Postby mighty_tiger_79 » Mon Jan 08, 2007 2:09 pm

now i only briefly heard this on the radio driving home. Dennis Markham was on TABRADIO talking about the state of the industry in this state etc.

talking about the facilities at Vic park, saying they are equal to third world conditions..........and its a metropolitan track. but the SAJC who dont own VIC PK are planning to spend around $20million on upgrading the facilities at Vic Pk. that doesnt make much sense to me at all, why spend money on something that you dont own.

the facilities are apparently poor in the trainers bar, they had no air-con for the last meeting and as a result there was talk of a boycott of vic pk meetings. the next vic pk meeting is on wednesday and they have ended up with 79 noms and only 7 races.
the amusing thing is this morning at morphettville they had 89 involved in 10 trials!!!!

If i was involved directly in the industry as an owner/trainer etc, i would be demanding that the SAJC forget about spending cash on vic pk, and spend all the cash on morphettville, maybe get lights for night racing or something like that and then pump the rest into PRIZEMONEY!!!!!!!! our prizemoney is equivalent to that of wagga wagga!!!!!!

well i dont bet oon tracks slow or worse and we all know Morphettville is shocking for that, so why not do what they do in hong kong and not have racing for 2 months. I know that this suggestion was made by Balfour to the SAJC previously.

we may need 2 tracks AG so why sell Cheltenham when its surface in the wet is better then morphettville

We really would become the laughing stock if we stop racing for 2 months!!! I think getting rid of cheltenham is a hard decision to make but the correct one...the situation with vic park has always frustrated me, potentially one of the best tracks in the country, with good size, even races for various distances, the straight 1000, all inside the CBD...SAJC just need some backing from government before they go all in and redevelop Vic Park... that and get rid of all those parkland greenies!!

Got nothing against keeping green space AG, but wouldnt you rather have a nice comtemporary grandstand that compliment the parklands rather than temporary and worn out eyesores??? you have a race track through the area and they are complaining about a grandstand??? same story as Adel Oval lights... now they are there who gives a s@#t...

It was shocking to put those horses in the city and expect people to go just coz 'its the races'........ maybe weve had too much racing..... Im not suprised no one went.... maybe the club should have had a promotion with the meeting or something coz that was the worst fields I have ever seen at a city track!!!!!

12 People on course to watch the first race at the VP wednesday meeting.
Obviously more people rolled up throughout the day

Here are some extracts from Advertiser page 70 thursday 11/01/07
At last the handcuffs were off Craig Cook who could report as seen

Three paying patrons had already debated why they were required to pay full tote odds of $9-the same as for a Saturday metropolitan meeting-to enter the dilipitated premises for a midweek restricted meeting.
After seriously considering to walk away they entered to find they had swelled the crowd by a significant percentage.

It isnt known whether the weather or the entry fee were the major factors in inhibiting the turn out, but surely it would be better to open the gates and let it be known entry is free in an attempt a crowd.

MALS VIEW
-------------
Here we go again, most of us have been saying entry fees are the death of race crowds.
Did they also pay a car park fee. :?:
Buy food and beverages at exhorbitant prices as per usual. :?:

Football continues to be a wealthy sport
Cricket reinvents itself with 50 over games and now 20/20 bashathons
Casinos through promotions and CHEAPER meals + drinks sway on
Soccer is resurging again.

Racecourses continue to spiral hopelessly into the wilderness.
Twilight meets are good but in general the 3 codes are titanicking down.
And if Bookies become extinct the problems will exasibate even further

I reckon I could double crowds and clubs could trade more productively
but who wants to listen to me with FREE advice whilst clubs employ
CEOS and managers earning $100,000 + per year.
Unfortunately my views which are enthusiastlly acknowledged by non officials
are never implemented by officialdom.

They already did with the VP debacle.
The difference is we can print what we desire under aliases, the media
reporters are known and must also refrain from writing as they see fit at times.

It would have cost them more to man the gates...

The SAJC should pay people $9 a head to go to Victoria Park and put up with the third world facilities. I went to the races in Bankok a few years ago and the racetrack there was better the Vic Park...(mind you the quality of racing was not that good though and most races involved at least one fall)
