Lawn Mower Problems.

My Lawn mower starts but does not keep running.

Starts good & easy but just dies after that.

It's a 2 x stroke Victa 50th Aniversary model that has been fully restored professionally about 2 years ago.

I promised myself I would not spend any more $$$ on it, & buy new.

I have recently purchased a 4 x stroke Victa 2 weekends ago.

But like my jeans, I am reluctant to throw them/it away....

Can you offer any advice or should I just Trash the Gold Victa...?

sounds like a throttle problem Dogger.

I'd go and get it seen to by a lawnmower repairman but it sounds pretty simple.

Coud be the air filter Dogger. Give it a clean and if that turns out to be the problem it's easily fixed.

Stop trying to clean the pool with it?

Definately a problem with the air/fuel mix, it starts so it's got spark.

Could be some of the problems listed above but I'm thinking it's either:

a blocked (restricted) fuel supply to the carby, could be float level, blocked filter, damaged or squashed hose

or

blocked main fuel jet in carby,
years ago I bought a Honda mower at a garage sale for $20 with the same problem, owner couldn't get it to keep running, I pulled the carby apart, cleaned the rust out of the main jet and the mower went for another 10 years.

Back in 1976 I bought an electric rotary mower made in NZ. It had a bright red cord to offset the risk of running over it.
It could sit in the shed for months and always worked first tine when you wanted it, and it coped with long wet grass.
Unfortunately, the rust in its framework finally caught up with it in 2008.

I'd try removing the air filter/hose from the body of the carby,start the mower give it a rev and stick the palm of your hand quickly over the carby. If you get a decent seal any crap in the jet will be sucked thru.

That would work a lot of the time, the one I bought must have had water in the fuel at some stage, the jet was actually rusted and needed cleaning out, oxy/acetylene tip cleaners worked a treat

what type of grass you trying to cut, man....

The carby has no external adjustments and the throttle control cable links up down through the carby inlet breather pipe somehow...?
