Has anyone actually obeyed it? I know I still find myself doing 60kph, not being rebellious, just habit even after a couple of fines for travelling at 59kph.

Absolute rubbish! It is peoples impatience and arrogance that makes them speed - not other drivers.

if people didnt put along at 45-50 on a 60 road then the people would have no reason to be impatient!

some people are very impatient, today i was on fyfe street turning right onto findon road at woodville south & i was stopped at a red light, a blue car pulls up on my left side, he sat there revving the engine for maybe 30 seconds & when there was a 40 metre gap on the travelling south road & a bigger break on the travelling north road, he took off through the red light & turning right onto findon road, i couldn't believe it & the amazing thing was i was that i pulled up alongside of him at the pedestrian lights outside the queen elizabeth hospital on woodville road....drivers like this clown shouldn't have a licence presuming he has a licence

It's your foot on the accelerator pedal not someone elses Fisty! A bit of common sense and patience would go a long way IMHO.

I agree. if someone doesnt feel confident to drive at the speed limit on a good day weather wise, dry road, good lighting etc then either their car is defective - get the piece of junk of the road - or maybe it is time to think about handing in that there licence. by all means drive slower in bad conditions, but when there are good conditions there is no excuse for impeding other road users.

Surely the roads would be safer if people who speed were not allowed on the roads rather than people who do not!

It Probably would
thats not the point Im making though.
All Im saying is that if people didnt go 10km lower then the speed limit these impatient people wouldnt become impatient and they wouldnt have to take risks and speed past people.

Where did i say speeding is ok? i said in good conditions there is no excuse to go lower than the speed limit and cause problems on the road due to your selfishness/insecurity. if someone isnt confident to do the speed limit when conditions allow they shouldnt be on the roads at all.

The 50K and 60K road distinction is something they have done better in Victoria.
If the road has white lines it is 60K unless a higher limit is posted.
If there are no white lines it is 50K.

So, there is no worrying about whether you have missed a sign obscured behind a bush, and no uncertainty about what the limit should be.
I'm a bit surprised the Victorian government missed the opportunity of creating confusion to assist revenue raising.
Perhaps some disloyal underling in VicRoads sneaked it through before the accountants noticed? ;)

If people are prone to impatience, risk taking and speeding then surely they should not be on the roads!
